This is **Burt’s Bees Satin Lipstick in “Scarlet Soaked.”**
I’m a cheapo. I can admit that. It gets egregious at times. But buying this at full price and being beyond disappointed only reinforces that.
I received a lipstick as a gift, which was not at all my speed (pastel pink, leaning toward concealer lip but even more unnatural). So I returned that and something else and exchanged it for this. I remember being super giddy.
I’ve seen the reviews talking about how it’s gritty and granular, but I tend to have good luck/low standards/enough persistence to make things work that I didn’t mind too much. When I first used it, it was smooth and lovely and I was like sorry to y’all, but this is great.
Not too long after, it became a gritty, grainy nightmare. I think a lot of other people online had the good sense to not use it past that stage, but mine looked like a horror show because I kept using it. I even had to roll it up and use it from the side to make it work at some point.
If the application was lovely like when it started, I think I could have looked past its other flaws, but with that kind of texture… I hated the smell and the distinct children’s chalky vitamin flavor. To be clear, I don’t lick my lips, but it would just… seep? into my mouth and I could taste it from the back of my throat.
I think it could have worked better if I liked to make it look sheer and to be fair, it does look cute like that. It’s just that I want my lipstick to have opacity. Honestly, I loved the color a lot. It’s a sophisticated deep red, perfect for Fall. When it wore off, it did leave a natural flattering rosy shade. But it’s almost unforgivable with how bad the experience was. Funnily enough, the part below the tube, where you have to use finger or brush, went back to being the lovely, smooth initial formula, so it did end on a good note.
I also really love the tube, but I’m trying to pare down my collections and get rid of useless clutters. This will join my bag meant for Nordstrom Beautycycle (or Pact with Sephora or Ulta, which I haven’t done before).
I don’t learn my lesson because I still love the brand and want to try the Lip Crayons so bad.
