I usually do my own nails, just with holo taco, super regularly! But I have a trip in a few days and decided to do a manicure and pedicures at the salon.
The pedicure was fine, during it I was speaking to the lady about nail options, I wanted to match color and she recommended tips with gel overlay/builder gel so it would last longer, I asked about the fact that I don’t want to cut my natural nails but yea don’t mind doing tips for matching length. She said she would match the length of my natural nail on my left thumb…..
At the first step after she put the tips on I could tell she put them long curing trimming but ofc so much filing and filing to be done still. But still because I never go to the salon and honestly don’t know the proper edict I told her at this step that my pointer and middle fingers were too long for me and the ones on the left were leaning one way not straight, she pushed my hand back and said I’m not done filing yet. I said nicely I figured but I just brining it up in case.
Then it was not fixed my the builder gel phase I had kinda chatted about it a moment before the builder gel, she hadn’t fixed it and put on the builder gel. So after the builder gel I told her again the length of the four fingers was too long. She said “why didn’t you tell me before!!??” I was like “I was like I wasn’t sure which step you wanted me to tell you this again”
Then she filed them down not even as short as I wanted but sure. She kept filing and at the end of all the filing I told her again that the fingers were still crooked tilted to the side, she said “okay you don’t like it, you file it” and tossed a level one grade file at me. I was like uhhh and struggling to do so because this is over the builder gel like also how am I gonna fix the completely tilted nail myself.
Anyway I attempted to do so, failing but spent time making it less crooked. Oh she also said “they look perfect to my eyes but maybe your eyes don’t see it”
Then she did the polish. When she did the lotion and cuticle oil she rubbed all the nail shavings into my hands and didn’t have my wash my hands or wipe them for me first.
Then at the register the total was way more than expected, she ran my card, turned around and said “your not gonna leave a tip or anything?” I said oh I was confused you hadn’t handed my anything yet” she said “how much” I said “10 dollars” she ran it and I left.
Now I have terrible nails that I’m completely dissatisfied with. I have a 9 day trip in 2 days. I did my nails at the salon to have a stress free experience, but that was not fun! I honestly right now am like omg I never wanna do my nails at a salon again, I’d rather do it myself. And I really do not like the the thickness of this gel and the crookedness of the nails!!!
Oh also they don’t match the length of my natural nails, if even matching to my left thumb legit the right thumb nail is longer?? Like what?
Also there is like a gap between my real nail and the tips is that supposed to be there.
Am I being crazy?! Like are they crooked. Am I being dramatic like?? idk, not feeling good or happy at all.
Maybe the slight rudeness of the salon worker tainted my view of the nails!??

I would ask for a refund and blast the place on every review site I can tbh. So sorry this was your experience!

Product list: The color was 164 Billionaire brand gel polish, at salon so I assume they used the same brand for top and bottom coat!!

Not sure why, but both hands look like they have different shades of red?

    4. I’ve never been to a salon before, but why in the world did you tip her lol she sounds like a bitch. imagine having your hair colored, they miss a huge obvious spot and when you point it out they say “WELL FINE YOU DO IT THEN”

and then she had the nerve to complain about you not tipping after she was so rude? nah. id go back and complain and make them fix it for free. or just take it all off and refund you

This sounds and looks like terrible service overall I would go back and ask for your money back at the very least.

    6. Oof I’m sorry you experienced that, right before a trip too. I mean yes she was rude, but that doesn’t mean you’re biased in thinking she did a shit job bc…well, she did a shit job. But it’s fixable. I would just clip/file them down to your liking. And also never go back there again

What terrible, unprofessional service. They look aweful, I’m sorry to say. You deserve a refund and they deserve bad reviews.

your not crazy! I am so sorry she did this to you! You have a trip in two days? oh my i would ask for a refund and the thumb nails don’t match. Can you go to another nail salon and get it fixed? I would be pissed too. I would do a different color polish if you go to another nail salon. This is terrible, a woman should have nice nails.

I don’t think you are being dramatic, she sounds like she was really rude, and I personally can be really particular with how my nails/eyebrows/hair/etc is shaped, so if I don’t like something, I’ll speak up, and I’ve been getting better at doing them at home. Your thumbs are definitely not even, and it doesn’t look like she did a good job building an apex with the builder gel, and she might have made the tips really thick to compensate. The nails on your middle finger on your left hand and your index finger on your right hand look kind of lifted from the pictures you shared and I wouldn’t be surprised if the others aren’t well shaped either.

If there is a gap between your gel nails and real nails, you could get a bacterial infection between them. I would definitely go back and either ask them to redo your nails or give you a refund, and I would leave a bad review, with pictures in good lighting of the nail shape (from the side), thickness (from the front), mismatch between the thumb nail sizes (like you already have), and 2 hand shots where one has your fingers pointed straight and another with your fingers curled against your palm to really hit home how messed up they are.

In any case, I’m sorry this happened – I feel like getting your nails done can be a little stressful because you have someone straight in your personal space and handling your fingers, and for them to be rude/dismissive sounds really upsetting.

    10. I understand you don’t have much experience going to a salon and I’m so sorry you had a bad experience! I promise that not all nail techs behave like this! They definitely took advantage of your naivety of salon culture. Your right to be upset with the results.

The apex of the nails aren’t there so they are more likely to snap at the stress points. Some techs use a nail bit to file under the nail to make them look thinner; that could have been done here. About the gap…there is going to be a gap since tips were used and you didn’t want to cut down your natural nails. I find that polygel and hard gel are good at making the underside smooth. The paint job isn’t horrible but I can tell where they filed and didn’t paint the edges.

It’s fixable; file them down to your liking and shape them as you see fit. Just be careful! You can always take away but can’t add it back! Good luck!

that side profile is what all the shitty salons near me do to people 😭😭😭 I’m sorry you had this experience they’re not all like that you got done so dirty

    12. Very politely, I don’t think the rudeness of her is what is clouding your vision on these nails.

They look…..clunky? That’s the word that’s coming to mind for me. She was probably so rude and defensive because she didn’t do a good job.

I second what everyone else is saying, I would go back and have them redone for free, share with the manager the rudeness of their employee, and then perhaps a lower star rating of that salon of they give you trouble about redoing them.

The color looks great on you! It’s a great red but the nails are clunky.
