I think the average person does not do their own nails or spend the time to do them. Most who do their own nails just slap some nail polish on, not waiting for coats to dry in between, and call it good.

Anything that goes beyond regular, short-ish painted nails gets compliments from a lot of people! My best friend regularly pokes fun and says it’s not fair that my nails are “so nice,” yet they don’t come close to some of what I see in this sub. I did polka dots with a dotting tool which is just about the simplest nail art you can do, and I got tons of compliments irl.

It’s all about perspective! You have naturally long and beautiful nails and you’re wearing a bold and sparkly color. Who cares if they aren’t magazine perfect? They stand out and look awesome!

  2. May I suggest acquiring a [clean up brush](https://www.holotaco.com/products/clean-up-brush). It’s a game changer. I used to flood my cuticles all the time. Between practice with polish application and using a clean up brush, my nails look way more how I want them to be.

Here’s an old simply video of her showing how to use a clean up brush: https://youtu.be/jUUoOKZcd90?t=801

This is the video I watched to learn how to paint my nails after not doing so for twenty years.
