The back story here is that a few people have posted about the bottles from their recent mooncat orders having cracks on the inside of the bottle.

The first two pictures are from a post today (that has since been deleted) where the OP stated that what looks like cracks are actually not, it’s just pigment. When someone pointed out that it’s strange to assume none of these people who have cracked bottles would have shook the bottles to make sure it’s not just pigment, the OP responded (this is the second pic) in a really defensive and guilty trippy way. the tone of that response made me suspicious so I did a little research, and it looks like the OP is potentially a mooncat employee (Proof is the second two pics). Just sharing for anyone who cares about this info. Links to the posts I’m referring to are in my profile.

  1. As someone who’s new to the indie polish scene, was Mooncat previously named LLP?

Edit: I’m a little confused as the polishes in the third picture are not Mooncat or LLP?

  2. God damn can they not just say a pallet got dropped at the warehouse rather than go through all this, it’s so needless. Just say there’s a problem and you’re committed to fixing it, don’t signal the FTC by astroturfing consumer claims with false information.

Just goes to show you can change your name but being shady is in this brand’s blood it seems 💅

Edit to add: it’s also hilarious to call this sub unwelcoming. This is the nicest group of humans ever gathered on the internet lol.

Big yikes!!! This is wildly disappointing. I was on the fence about Mooncat just because of other qc issues but this is comically bad lol.

Also thank you for posting this. Even as a standalone post it seemed silly but knowing how a company moves is always Helpful.

  5. I thought it was a dedicated but patronising superfan but this is a bit more dodgy.

  6. I’m genuinely asking – how do the last two photos suggest they’re an employee? The second photo seems to show that they got maybe a PR package from LLP (but the polishes shown aren’t even LLP), and the third just looks like they’re a customer of something?

ETA: oh ignore me I didn’t track the usernames correctly

  7. IDK why but I find it hilarious/sad that they wrote it “Moon Cat” too. We’re so unwelcoming!

No freaking way! That’s insane…ok, one of us has to be able to hack the name and cross ref mooncat employees names or locations…this has me shook! If the bottle is cracked, it’s freaking cracked… #GasLightingBottlehate!

it’s funny because i just saw one of those posts and op specified that they stuck a tool in and ran it along the inside and confirmed that they were in fact cracks and not just pigment. plus i love how they threw a tantrum because someone – not even with attitude! – was like hey it’s a bit silly you’d think that shaking it wouldn’t occur to us first. “i’m leaving this sub you’re all unwelcoming and terrible” ok girl bye!

Jesus, if this is true, that really puts a bad taste in my mouth. Especially for the price per bottle compared to some other indies, I know the economy is taking hits everywhere, but their prices are kinda high per ml, at least for me. Still, it’s a shame, Mooncat was the brand that got me more into polish and doing my nails more regularly, and that new collection looked cool. But I also don’t need to be spending any more on polish any time soon lol

  11. Forever solidifying my decision not to purchase from them. If a company can’t even own up to a mistake and has to lie about it like this, then they aren’t getting my money.

I do not understand why you would do this? A couple of people getting cracked bottles isn’t a huge deal, and those bottles should simply be replaced.

Double not a big deal because replacing them is nothing for them either. The profit margin on polish is nuts. I can only imagine what a popular indie like MC rakes in annually.

  13. Or it’s the brand owner herself. I refuse to pay their prices, given the shady history of this company.

You know, I stoppped supporting Mooncat primarily because of the greedy short-notice price hike, how thet handled the bottle breaking issues, and the shady charity donation debacle.

I didn’t know their employees did sh!+ like this too. I’m not surprised. Their owners are sketchy as hell with what they allegedly did during their stockist days as Live Love Polish (forced brands to increase the prices on their websites so they can justify charging higher prices, stealing consumer data to formulate their own overpriced polishes, to name a few). I feel great not supporting them. They suck.

  15. This is some shady shit. They just did more damage to themselves than if they’d come out and said they’re investigating (yet another) a bottle issue. Ugh.

Does Moon Cat think anyone other than nail polish aficionados are buying their product? It’s not a drugstore brand. It’s not cheap nail polish. Anyone buying from them has the common sense to shake the bottle first.

woah. I have my first mooncat order in the cart right now, and I’m having second thoughts because the price and the bottle issues already had me nervous. This is shady. :-/
