I asked for help a few days ago and you all gave me some amazing feedback. I have ordered some acetone additive, and I will start using a peely layer under my glitter polishes.

So, question: do you all use a traditional base coat under your peely layers? I have the KBShimmer hydrating base coat, and the community seems to love what it does for nails. Would it benefit/damage my nails to put down a layer of that before using the peel off layer?

More neons this time lol: OPI Nail envy base coat, ILNP Sunny Days and Playlist, topped all with Clionadh Radiance, then KBShimmer QDTC

  1. If you want to use another base coat, you want to layer it OVER the peely base. Otherwise it doesn’t actually peel off (I speak from experience).

Peely layer always goes first then you can layer another base coat on top. Side note, you’ve inspired me to try toppers on my neons bc omg that’s gorgeous!

  3. i think this is a great question!

i’d assume that peel off basecoats are meant to be applied directly to the nail plate (the one i use does have instructions to apply to clean and dry nails directly- sample size of one though).

for basecoats with nailcare properties (hydrating, strengthening, etc) those also *seem* like they’re intended to go directly on the nail to do the thing they’re supposed to do.

i’m not sure if there’s anything wrong with putting a peely base on top of another basecoat, but if i had to guess that’s not the recommended use for most of them and might interfere with how well it does its job. maybe the real answer is rotating basecoats depending on your manicure’s current needs?

i know we have a few lacquerist(a)s on the production side in here sometimes, maybe one of them could enlighten us 😁
