Pretty sure I’ve got a bunch of rings of fire going on here. I had my nail tech take off my acrylics last week (she left a thin layer on some nails for some reason?? Saying they were too weak without it) and I’ve been using hard as hoof trying to get them back to a good place. The pointer finger is completely bare and starting to look better.

Any time I do a sheer color they look like hell because you can see these lines through them and that just doesn’t feel normal.

Problem is, I’m really close with my nail tech and look forward to getting to see and talk to her every two weeks, I just can’t have my nails looking like this with my wedding at the end of the year.

Help! Do I need a new nail tech?

For the health of your nails, I do not recommend you going back to them. If you wish to be their friend, that’s fine but, your nails are at a point where you have a chance to save them— you just gotta stop going to her. Definitely do your research. Find a quality licensed tech near you.

yikes … they were “too weak without the acrylic” because she filed them down all too much… you should ideally wait to put on anymore enhancements until these grow out. She butchered them.

Dear lord, not only does there appear to be rings of fire but layers of your nails seem to have been ripped off as well… I’m shocked your nails don’t feel tender or sore at this point. I’d urge you to find a better tech for the health of your nails before they over file the last few layers of them off

Whew… that’s rough. Like the other comments, I wouldn’t go back to her no matter how good her nails look. Unless it’s to show her what she’s done to your natural nails as a PSA! As it stands, you have a chance to save your real nails if you give them a break and let that wretchedness grow off.
    Some things you just can’t un-see! 😳

I just had to go back to press ons for the same exact reason 😭 my techs were so nice and sweet, and the prices were really reasonable for where I live (high COL area), but they were filing my nails so thin that I had constant rings of fire and I felt like my nails were burning during filing.

I’ve been putting 2-3 coats of strengthener on, filing off the top coat once it’s completely dried, and then doing press on prep the same way I would if I had bare nails. It’s been a couple months and I can definitely see an improvement in the health of my nails.

Definitely consider finding a new tech. I’m sorry this happened to you!

  7. Oh no. That’s tough. Maybe she can help you grow your natural nails with simple manicures and no acrylics for a while.

Stop going and give your nails some time to grow out the damage. If you must have something on them, builder is really great to protect them in my experience. I had a similar thing happen to me and I used a clear builder so I could basically give them some body since they had gotten so thin. There were parts that were tender to touch cause they had e-filed the ever loving shit out of them and the builder was basically like armor. Your nails are too pretty to keep hurting them like that!

Seeing your photos literally makes me wince. I don’t know how a licensed tech could do that, make any kind of excuse about how “weak” your nails are and act like they aren’t the problem here. If your nail tech loved you the way you love and rally for her, this would not be the current status of your nails. There really isn’t a whole lot of nail on any finger because she clearly files them away. I wouldn’t go back to her again for nails, especially with your wedding coming. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. I make custom press ons, so if you don’t figure out a better place or solution, you let me know.

  10. there’s not a chance in hell she can’t see what she’s doing to your nails. she’s hacking them to pieces and you’re tipping her and recommending her. please
