It's my first time to ever dye my hair so I'm A LOT unsure of what to do? I've seen this and it seemed pretty easy to use. Though I don't know, could be the editing or something. Do I have to divide my hair into parts when using this? I've seen videos where they just rub it on like shampoo. Also, just gave this sub a read and just knew that I have to be careful around the roots. Is there any other tips? My hair color is black so would you recommend me to bleach it twice? Also, I have to wait a few days after bleaching before using the hair dye, is that correct? Does it make your hair dry? And after bleaching I have to shampoo and conditioner, what else? Also, not to wash my hair that often after dyeing. I also workout often so I'm very worried about bleeding because I'm a heavy sweater.

Is it better to go to salon for first time experience? TIA! ( ◜‿◝ )♡

if you have black hair and this is your first time I would truly get it lightened professionally. A lot can go wrong bleaching your hair. yes, bleaching does cause damage and it does make your hair dry.

I think it depends on your budget and what you want to get out of it. A reputable salon will likely set you back a few hundred if bleach is needed. They’ll also be a lot more realistic w you on what’s achievable based on what your hair can take while still keeping it relatively healthy. That being said, I highly recommend salon over box dye. Box dues are made as a “one size fits all” solution. That’s why on the back of these it usually gives a range of what could be possible based on what your starting color is. Most salons will have a hard time working with your hair once it’s been box dyed because the color is hard to lift evenly (they have to pretty much just guess what’s been done to it). If you plan to continue dying it with box dye that’s fine, but something to be aware of!

ETA: You will need color safe shampoo and conditioner. Look into that and whether you need purple shampoo. If you go to a salon, you can ask for guidance based on the color. Also, bleaching is literally removing melanin from your hair by opening the cuticle. Your hair will definitely be dryer after. Not saying this to discourage it at all! I’ve had bleached hair and thought it was worth it, but it does require ongoing maintenance that I think should be understood if you want it to look good.

  3. i have black hair and i consistently use bubble dye over it, without a separate bleach application — and it works pretty well! you can start from the ends and work your way up to the roots and make sure to rly massage it in throughout your hair so it’s not patchy. i know people say it can be risky, but imo it’s quite hard to mess up using bubble dye! just don’t leave it on for longer than they recommend and condition + oil your hair frequently after dying. 🙂 also, your hair won’t be super super light (you can’t go blonde from black this way) but there’s definitely a noticeable enough difference that’s still rly nice! i think i have a photo of my hair somewhere on my profile haha

  4. I’ve used Hello Bubble dye on my below-the-shoulder length hair (naturally black). Hello Bubble red barely shows at all on unbleached black hair, only at certain angles in bright light. I’ve used this (picture included) color as well but it lasted maybe a week at most and faded to a very dark brown.

Pros: easy to use. Doesn’t bleed onto skin after the first wash.

Cons: Color might not be vibrant on darker hair types. Color faded after a week. Need more than 1 pack if you have a lot of hair/longer hair.

If you’re looking for long lasting and even color, I recommend going to a salon.

I would not recommend doing box dye bleach for your hair on your own (I box bleached my hair a lot when I was broke and couldn’t afford going to the salon) it does a lot of damage to your hair, and you need to use color-safe shampo/conditioner/toner just to keep your hair looking half decent.

    Edit: spelling

  5. Also recommending a salon for bleach/dye! I’ve tried the primer before and it does an okay job but I had a hard time getting it even, but I was a lot younger and didn’t care that much back then
