I've been using Japanese and Korean skincare products for over 10 years, but not so much makeup in general. I tend to order online, and this has worked well for skincare, but I absolutely did not trust myself to pick the right colour foundation lmao and after about the 6415th youtube video I was just OVERWHELMED WITH EVERYTHING.
To my absolute surprise, ChatGPT was actually rather helpful with this – it had a seemingly rather accurate knowledge of a LOT of Korean makeup brands and specific shades which I didn't expect because I appreciate this is somewhat of a… niche topic (it only ever really slipped up with some lip tint #s but I don't think I can fault it for that).
I sent it 3 selfies in natural light and gave it the name of a Dior foundation I previously used (someone in Sephora matched me for this years ago but it didn't actually feel like a good match if I'm honest). I was originally leaning towards the MISSHA M Perfect Cover BB cream and while it did pick a colour for me, it also noted that none of the available 7 shades were really a good match for me and suggested some other brands/lines for better match (some that were definitely not on my radar).
Based on its suggestions, I ended up ordering the Espoir Be Glow cushion foundation in #22 Petal and the Clio Kill Cover Mesh Blur in #19N Porcelain for days when I'd need better coverage (because the non-blur version was out of stock in my shade everywhere). I actually absolutely cannot complain because both of them ended up being more or less PERFECT matches. The Espoir one is lighter coverage but I think I prefer the finish, while the Clio one is more buildable. It also ended up helping me pick some really banging lip tints (I was honestly too overwhelmed with the selection), an eye shadow palette and some bits and bobs.
Usually it'd suggest 1-2 shades, and one thing it found helpful in further narrowing it down was me sending it additional photos/swatches I found online of a specific product – it'd break it down for me why specific shades would work better for my skin tone than the others which I appreciated as a makeup noob, and also if specific products like the lip tints/blush I picked would good together. I'm quite happy with everything I got based on its recommendations bar a brow tint but maybe I'm just finding it weird how it looks on my face idk, the journey continues :')

Wow! Killing the environment for something you certainly could have done yourself. Claps 4 u
Glad you found a good color match but cmon can we stop using chat gpt so casually? Like you can consult a real person instead of using up crazy amounts of energy/power and drinkable water to ask AI questions, especially detailed ones like this bc even simple questions unnecessarily consume resources
Not trying to attack you and I know you are just one person and it’s a growing issue in society but cmon using AI so casually for beauty consults is beyond me
That’s an insane shade match. Im glad it worked out for you!
“I asked ChatGPT” ohmygod can people just use their brains
The commenters here have been psycho. Everything need not be a struggle session. Good on you, OP, for using a modern tool to get a result that you like/works for you!
You really seem to enjoy these products – can I ask your skin type? (ETA: lol nvm, you have it in your flair). How did they hold up?
