I am 40, and while I don't think I look bad for my age, these forehead wrinkles are driving me crazy. I have included what I currently use and a filter/makeup free photo. I didn't have glasses for several years as a young adult and so the wrinkles are from squinting. Is botox my only recourse at this point? I also take astaxanthin and collagen orally daily.

Retinoids are one of the best topical anti-aging treatments out there. Opt for a gentler retinol (like 0.1%) first, then you can move up to retinal or maybe even tretinoin. If you’ve never tried it before, Cosrx has a 0.1 retinol cream.

  2. If you are going to try retinol, ask your doctor. The prescribed ones are stronger and cheaper even without insurance coverage.

I’ve used both retinal and glycolic acid and I prefer glycolic acid. I don’t know why, but it’s gentler on my skin, yet it works better at sloughing off dead cells. I prefer a 12% strength since that’s when I see results. If you head over to the skincare sub (including the one for over 30) you’ll get a lot of good recs. Mine isn’t AB so I can’t share it in the comments here.

PS, I’ve been squinting SO much more lately – and I’ve always been a squinter, all of my wrinkles are around my eyes – so you’re not alone! I try to use sunglasses more and got an extra cheap pair of regular glasses to wear on errands so if I’m doing something like washing my car it doesn’t matter too badly if they break.

You’re looking great! I agree with everyone else recommending tretinoin. But if you can’t get access, BOJ revive eye serum contains a good amount of retinal (one chemical step away from tretinoin) you could also try. Just apply it all over the face before moisturizer.
