I see sooo many girls on TT using colored contacts. They look so gorgs and give a dollike face effect, enlarging the eyes slightly and enhancing their features somehow~ It always looks so cute and so lovely!
However, in the past, everytime I bought contacts they always looked really weird on me? I kept trying and they kept looking weird! I found the contacts she uses and I’m debating buying but, afraid it might be a waste again :/
Is this a user issue or, did I fall for online propaganda?

Maybe pay attention to the diameter of the lens (enlarging may look more “weird” without a full face of makeup) and also if it has a limbal ring which can look more natural?
I think they look odd in the photos you’ve provided as well. They never look natural especially in person; filters online smooth out the details our eyes pick out in real life, so you need to adjust your expectations of how they actually look.
If you’re committed to making them work for you, try to find a pair with a smaller iris size in a colour similar to your natural eye colour. You may need to adjust your makeup a bit as well to balance everything out.
I’m not a fan of colored contacts because I don’t think they ever look natural. I don’t like the way they look on anyone but to each their own.
Colored contacts are by definition unnatural.
Girl I’d be tempted too because those look so beautiful on her! Do you know the brand she is wearing? Maybe you can sus out other reviews from customers and see how they look on them to get a better picture? Also her makeup seems to complement the lens’ well (aegyosal, tall lashes) so that your makeup style might have an effect on the doll-like illusion!
Sometimes stronger makeup or different colored hair can help.
it’s worth trying different colors and diameters. the larger ones look so good on my friends & influencers, but on my eye shape it looks too uncanny-weird. so i go for smaller diameters like 14.2mm. (: and blues do not look good on me at all due to my skin tone. i personally love olive green and grey shades when i wear them. of course it’ll look unnatural because they are, but proportion & colors can be changed to fit your personal looks best.

Circle lenses rarely look natural due to their large graphic diameter. Generally, if you stick to 11.9-13.1 mm at most and choose more subtle colors (like brown, olive, dark grey) it can look natural.
The diameter matters. Small eye + big diameter lens = weird. And finding a suitable colour for yourself also matters. Warm tone skin + cool toned lens = weird.
I don’t think I have seen ones who look natural. All look uncanny/off
I feel like circle lenses (esp those with diameter > 14.2) look more unnatural if you’re not wearing it with makeup and fake lashes since that’s what gives the dolly look. Maybe try it with falsies!
You have to consider diameter, color intensity, color contrast, and your own features/tone. For a natural dolly effect, you’d generally go for a color closer to your natural eye color and then a slightly larger but not too large in diameter.
If a color is very high contrast to your eye, it’ll also look less natural. I recommend trying trial packs from places like Hapa Kristen and Olens. They generally have a variety so you can try out what works for you and what your preference is.

Try a smaller graphic diameter. I find that circle or dolly lenses only look good with certain makeup styles, otherwise it looks very jarring. So if you wear light makeup, just go for more natural lenses.
I thought this was a picture of you and I was going to say they look so cute! You might just not be used to them especially if they are enlarging and you’re not wearing a full face of makeup. Light colour contacts can look a bit strange if you have darker hair or features and it’sobvious if they are off centred. Something similar to your eye colour but a bit larger would probably look the least weird
