I broke out from numbuzin 5 concentrated serum, cos de baha niacinamide + txa, skin1004 tone brightening ampoule. What do these have in common that’s possibly causing it?
Sorry to say but: it’s the *Niacinamide* in them! All those products share this ingredient so you are unfortunately applying too much of it on your face ☹️

That numbuzin serum alone has so many potential acne triggers… I don’t think you could ever find out what is causing it exactly.
I think you would be better off using actives with very simple and short ingredient lists to minimize the chance of a bad reaction

Well all of them have txa and niacinamide. Better consult a derma.
Also if your trying to solve redness, you probably need soothing ingredients like Cica

You’re probably using too many actives on your skin in general. You don’t need that many
I’d strip your routine back to the basics and then slowly introduce one active at a time for a few weeks to see how your skin responds. If it flares up again you know not to use it anymore, but if it works then you may not need to add in any other products

it could be the niacinamide, it could also be the ferments I have heard people break out from ferments and there are ferments both in the numbuzin and the skin 1004 serum, but I think it’s mostly the amount of actives and new products you have introduce into your skincare routine at once. try to heal your skin and the introduce the products one at a time for a couple of weeks before you introduce the next one. Actives usually take some time to show an effect anyways.

I’m pretty new to AB so take this with a grain of salt but maybe it was adding the azelaic acid on TOP of each of those actives. Heal your skin barrier with calming ingredients then try one serum at a time. If u still react then goodbye. I tried attacking my acne head on when I started but have noticed calming ingredients tend to be much better for me and most of my acne has gone away

Which product did you use first? It sounds like one of the products completely broke your barrier, which would take about 3-4 weeks for it to fully heal. By putting more products with strong actives in them while your barrier is broken AND using AZA, you essentially kept attacking your barrier
ETA: do you use a toner before these serums? They’re all very strong products so putting it directly on the skin is risky

How did you heal your skin barrier?

Niacinamide causes closed comedones for me. I also tried to use it initially from hyperpigmentation. Unfortunately, it’s an ingredient in a lot of products. I’ve noticed even low concentrations break me out. Always check the ingredients on the back before buying.

you’re overloading your skin with too many foreign products, 2 weeks isn’t enough I give my skin a full month when testing out new products (this is ymmv but perhaps this was why you broke out), reset your skin to zero and use back products your skin love

This is what happens when you use more than 5% Niacinamide unfortunately

i would stop all active one focus on skin barrier with soothing ingredients

Niacinamide seems to be the culprit. But using products for 3 to 5 days is doing nothing for you. Try to remove niacinamide from your routine and be consistent for at least a month or two before changing your routine. PIE takes a time to heal/resolve.

I think it may be that your skin is reacting to using different products in such a short time span. Obviously, as others mentioned, it could be the niacinamide and if you are sensitive to that, you will experience irritation. However, I don’t believe these are the best products to use for PIE, but more for PIH. If you have redness, you’d need the Azelaic Acid but also soothing ingredients like Centella or Cica.
For now, focus on repairing your skin barrier and give yourself time when introducing new products into your routine once you have repaired your barrier. If you’re using a new product, do a patch test and wait 24-48 hours before using it on another area to see how your skin reacts. Once you’ve passed that grace period you can try using it on your face but use it on alternating days or every two days before you work your way up to every day use.

you might be using too much niacinamide at once or it’s too much of the percentage combined for your face orrrrr it could be too much product on one face. my face can handle 10 percent but your face might not. could be the ferments too because although some help the skin,if you’re really sensitive it might cause breakouts. i had to learn this when trying out products put a little on the side of your face (or anywhere that doesn’t normally break out) and wait those few days to see if there’s any redness or reaction too.

If trying to solve for redness try for more hydration—you could also be experiencing skin “purging” which happens when you start using lots of actives or the increase in percentages—Niacidamide can also cause this if you use too much. It’s also a common rosacea trigger.

Based on INCI alone, they all contain niacinamide, tranexamic acid, and 1,2 hexanediol.

Started cos de baha txa last night and this morning I have new acne!

Niacinamide is probably the culprit. A little bit is great, but if you multiply it in every product it can create skin purging and breakouts.

Have you looked up the ingredients?
