I’ve been practicing the velvet look and feel like I’m improving, but then the topcoat seems to mess it up. I do magnetize after topcoat as well but since it’s transparent I feel like I’m having trouble getting an even layer and that messes with the effect. What are your tried and true QDTCs for magnetics?

This is Orly bonder basecoat, Static Nails Doe as a base color, one thick magnetized coat of Cirque Lyra using a horseshoe magnet, and Seche Vive topcoat. I waited 30 min before applying topcoat so it was very dry to touch, and I magnetized after topcoat as well.
I’ve tried Seche Vite and Mooncat’s QDTC and had magnetic issues with both (SV diffused my cat eye like crazy and somehow created a magnetic effect where I wrapped the tips, and MC ended up with a bunch of visible bubbles). Dying to know what topcoat doesn’t mess with magnetics!
DRK Nails Magic Effect topcoat will help keep the magnetic effect from dispersing as quickly. There are a few posts about it on this sub talking about it. You’ll want to follow it with a QDTC and then you should be all set.
i like the ILNP topcoat. i think most topcoats are going to diffuse the magnetic effect just a tiny bit but the ILNP dries faster than any other top coat for me personally so my logic is the magnet particles have less time to drift away lol. it might come down to which topcoat dries fastest for you if this theory is true though. maybe it’s a body chemistry or ambient humidity thing but some that are holy grails for other people take FOREVER to dry for me and vise versa.
I use essie gel couture and cuticula limitless and both of those top coats do well with magnetics for me. The one I had that I felt didn’t work well with them is Seche Vite.
