I haven't painted my nails myself literally ever before, please be kind 🫶
It's so hard to avoid painting on your skin 🥲 I'm struggling to find a balance between applying too much versus too little. I did one layer of ILNP Lockup, two to three layers of ILNP First Light, Dreamscape, and Rainshower, followed by one layer of ILNP Glass Candy.

First: Amazing color combo!
Second: Great start!
Third: When I first started, I found using liquid latex around the cuticle helps me lessen my clean up. Also, thinner coats. You don’t need to reach full opacity on the first coat. (I still have to remind myself of this). Lastly, try not to fuss with the polish too much after you lay it down, especially with lighter shades. They tend to get funky if over worked.
Cleaning up with a brush while you go will help a lot. You can get a cheap eyeliner brush from Ulta or elf. Just dip it in acetone and clean up around your sidewalls and cuticles after each coat.
This looks good for a first attempt! I love the color choices. It gets easier the more you do it.
The color combo is great! I honestly never experiment like this because matching shades together seems overwhelming and my collection is small. So bravery!! 👏🏻
I agree with the thin coats and not overworking. And make sure to give time to dry between coats. I usually set timers because I’m impatient and if you layer too quickly you can get bubbles.
Love the pastels! I would focus on thinner layers, and I always err on the side of leaving a little of the nail bare rather than getting it into the cuticle/skin. It helps the polish last much longer and no one notices if there’s a little gap on the very side of the nail.
Thanks for this thread! I started doing my nails recently and am having some of the same problems, so you helped me too!
Highly recommend getting tip clips! Total game changer! They’ve helped me paint my nails pretty close to perfectly. No more polish on skin etc. you can get them on Amazon, and here is a link to the ones they sell on Uno Mas:

Other commenters have already given good advice, but you’ve got the claw pose for photos down perfectly so no improvements needed there.
