I’m struggling to settle on a nail shape for myself. I usually default to a kind of rounded squoval, I guess, as seen in images 1 and 2, but then it doesn’t feel… intentional? Fancy? special? enough. I would LOVE to maintain a more almond shape (3 & 4) but I’m a mom and a volunteer firefighter so that’s kind of impossible (and I always get tears/breaks at the side with that shape). I’ve been trying a flat square (5, which is from today), but something about that ALSO doesn’t feel quite right. I know shape is very personal, but is there a shape yall feel looks best? Any tips, thoughts, advice? TIA! 😅

I recently switched from square to more of a ballerina/coffin shape and am very happy with it!

I say this with nothing but love, but please never wear the polish in Pic 3 again!

For practicality’s sake, I’d stick with the shorter squares, given you use your hands and need them to be at their most functional.

They honestly all llook good so just do what works for your lifestyle. No sense fighting nature.

I started with squoval when I first got into doing my nails, but I now keep them similar to the shape you have in pictures 3&4. Never sure what it’s officially called, Mountain Peak maybe? It’s the shape I’ve stuck with as you get a bit of length without it being too disabling (I’m relatively new to longer nails) and I find I get far fewer breaks with that shape than when I had them Squoval. But honestly either shape look lovely on you!

As someone with a blue-collar job I can’t maintain anything other than an oval or squoval. If I try to do a mountain peak, square, or whatever else with a sharper shape it’s almost a guaranteed break at some point.

I personally love your shape in pics 1 and 2, it looks elongating yet practical. If that shape still doesn’t work for you maybe grow that shape out as long as you comfortably can and gradually work towards a more almond shape?
