I’m a beginner at doing my own nails, I usually get gel at a salon but can’t as I need to have bare nails at work so have decided to start doing my own nails with traditional lacquer.
I went with OPI bubble bath as it was everywhere when searching for a perfect sheer pinky nude. But what is this?! It looks nothing like any swatches or inspo photos I’ve seen for bubble bath. I’ve tripled check and the bottle is definitely labelled as bubble bath but I’m worried it actually isn’t.

OPI have changed Bubble Bath I’m pretty sure.
You’ve probably seen swatches of the old formula/colour.
OPIs Gel and Lacquer are often different even if they have the same name. Bubble Bath in general seems to keep changing tone every couple of years. I’m sure if you posted the swatches of the preferred tone you’re looking for several folks here would help you find a dupe!
So it’s possible that OPI changed the formula or pigments. The swatches you saw could also have been done with thinner or fewer coats (more coats = more opacity).
But also, skin tone can really impact how a polish looks on different people. Especially with any of these very light/neutral/near nude sort of shades. A light pink polish with a lot of cool undertones may look very natural and sort of barely there on someone with light skin with pinkish undertones, but stand out much more starkly on someone with darker skin or more olive undertones, for instance.
At which point it’s possible that nothing has changed about the polish, but this particular polish just doesn’t have the right shade or undertones to give you the look you want against your specific skin or undertones. Which always sucks, but seems to happen a lot with nudes. I’ve seen lots of people have to try multiple polishes before finding the right one for them.
There are a lot of different bubble bath colors. the 2 lacquer versions, soft gel, and pre colored press ons all look different. they also reformulated and completely changed the lacquer color at some point, I’m unsure what year it was. I usually love OPI but the bubble bath thing is ridiculous
Yeah I find bubble bath so yellow on me
I can only wear Bubble Bath in gel form. So annoying. Look at Olive and June polishes for similar see thru milky vibes that you’re probably wanting- they’re awesome.
I recently bought “put in neutral” and “baby take a vow” from OPI and they both look good for a more neutral/pinkish nail. Layering both of them is the sweet spot for me personally. I have just the regular lacquer for both
I had this happen with Cajun Shrimp – it came out a lot more pinkish than I remember and I was kind of disappointed lol it looked more like Strawberry Margarita
You may also be able to slightly change the way it appears on your nails if you apply a different nude coat below the Bubble Bath coat(s)!
