The itch was strong to do tortie nails, but last time they turned out too dark (I started with brown jelly as I did not have mustard) and also, I needed to spring/summerify the look. Hence, I combined it with my gemstone nail obsession and this was born.
Steps ⬇️
I used an 📍essie base coat (smooth-e) and prepped the area around my nails with 📍liquid latex to make cleanup easier later.
🤎 I started with my 📍own mustard jelly that I made using essence clear polish mixed with a couple of drops of yellow and sepia alcohol ink.
🩵 I painted two coats of 📍cirquecolors Miami-dade.
🤎 I painted blobs with a brown jelly, 📍Daenerys, from phoenixindie
🩵 I grabbed a makeup sponge, and brushed on some 📍Petrol jelly, a dark bluish jelly, also from phoenixindie & dabbed it to the sides and ends of my nails to give it dimension.
🤎 More brown blobs, smaller, in the middle of the earlier blob, with the same brown jelly.
🩵 This is where the fun starts: I used a so-called mossing technique; I dropped a little blob of polish (a coffee colored creme, from 📍catrice ), from very close to the water surface (so it swims and not sinks), onto a bowl of water, then quickly sprayed alcohol on it, which creates this mossy pattern. Here you have a choice: you can dunk your nail into it or, if you want more control, do as I did: I grabbed it from the surface with a clear jelly stamper and then pressed onto the nail – this way I could also use the same stamp for multiple nails, adding little by little.
🤎 I grabbed some black jelly from 📍phoenixindie (Vyserys) and made a tiny blob in the middle of the blob from before.
🩵 I repeated the previous mossing steps but this time with a bronze polish from phoneixindie (📍Saturn). It's also a magnetic, so I magnetized with a horseshoe, just in case…
🩵 With a nail art liner brush I painted black "cracks" on my nails (📍black OPI creme), and then for more dimension, I tried to go in with an offwhite polish right next to them (📍local store, H*MA spill the tea), here and there, for a highlight.
Topcoated with the red bottle 📍sallyhansen then I peeled off the liquid latex.
