i pretty much always use this combo:

    1. essie all in one top & base coat

    2. essie nail polish (this one is 424 bordeaux)

    3. essie quick-e drying drops

and i always end up with some weird marks on the nail polish, like in the picture.

i painted my nails on saturday afternoon and took all the care in the world not to mess them up. spent the evening and no issues, they looked great by the end of the night. the next morning i wake up and they have the weird pressed marks on them, i assume from the sheets. doesn’t matter how long i wait for them to dry, this always happens.

i usually apply 1 coat of the base/top coat, 3 coats of nail polish, 1 coat of the base/top coat again, and a couple of drops of the quick-e

i have tried skipping the last base/top coat and only using the drops, but same thing happens.

am i doing too many coats? if so, how do you get deep reds to look opaque in 2 coats?

otherwise, is this a skill issue? bad products? looking for any advice and/or tips!

i know my cuticles are pretty dry in the pics!! putting oil on them as i type 💅

the top/base coat looks purple because i almost exclusively only paint my nails red and overtime the blue hue mixed with my reds and now it’s purple 😛

    1. I dont think you need three coats. I would also recommend swapping the quick dry drops for a quick dry top coat that will help set the coats underneath.

The issue is the base/top combo. Base coat is formulated to adhere to the nail plate, which top coat is formulated to adhere to polish. A product that claims to do both will do neither job well.

A quick dry top coat, like Seche Vite or Sally Hansen’s Dries Instantly, will help to set all the layers and get your nails shiny, smooth, and dry.
