I got my nails done with gel for the first time about a week ago and the gel tips are already separating from my nails! I’m an artist and definitely haven’t been gentle to them but most of my nails have started to separate and I noticed trapped ink at the tips a few days after they were done (unsealed?) I attached a pic of the lifting gel, most of my nails are doing this.

I love my nails but I feel like for the price they should last longer. However, this is the first time I’ve had them done so I’m not sure! Should I let the salon know and get them redone? Is this worth making a complaint over? I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to get a new set if they’ll start lifting after a week. My nails never took regular polish very well but I was hoping a Korean gel manicure would be different.

Thank you in advance for any help or advice!!

You should definitely have them removed. Moisture will get trapped underneath and fester into a bacterial infection that will take weeks to get rid of.

yeah this is unfortunately pretty common for me too. i work outside and if i do just gel polish, no extensions they will peel off. i do my nails at home so at least not really wasting money but i do find it frustrating

There are a variety of reasons why lifting may occur. Poor prep and not capping the free edge are two big reason but how a client uses their hands also factors in.

Do you clean or wash dishes without gloves? Do you use the tips of your nails as tools? Both of those things can shorten the lifespan of your manicure.

As of now, you should have the polish removed to prevent moisture getting trapped underneath the gel. IF the manicure was done less than 7 days ago, the salon might offer a redo, but that depends on the salon and their policies.

Is this just gel polish or do you have builder gel over your natural nails? I’m not sure what gel tips are unless you’re referring to gel x. But either way, no, this should not be happening; they didn’t prep properly. I would go back there, show them, and have them fix it.

This isn’t normal and it’s most likely poor nail prep. I do my own nails and they would peel in a week if I didn’t prep correctly. Some people are what you call heavy lifters – nail enhancements lift from the nail plate easily. What worked for me was primer before my base coat.

Btw, your mani is pretty. I might have to copy it!
