If you saw my earlier practice nail, you'll know I got a little ahead of my skill level this week and thought I'd be good to go on a set.
Reader, I was not good to go. 6 hours and God knows how many layers later… here we are.
Got through one hand and hated it, but at that point it was 1 am and momma didn't raise a quitter.
Somehow the marbling on my dominant hand turned out… better? in some way? idfk yall.
My kids love them so oh well. At least I remembered to use peel off base coat.
and yeah I know, cuticles flooded, I cleaned them up before curing best I could.

You need to be very careful with getting uncured gel product on your skin. This includes flooded cuticles. Nail products like UV cured gel, acrylics, and nail glue contain acrylate monomers. These are very small molecules that are easily absorbed through the skin. Once the product is fully cured it’s stable and relatively safe, but anytime uncured product touches your skin you run the risk of triggering an immune system response called allergic contact dermatitis. Reactions can show symptoms locally around the nail such as itching, redness, blisters and even nail lifting (onycholysis). This is your immune system trying to clear the intruder. Everyone is different and it can happen the first time you’re exposed or the 100th time. Once you’ve developed an allergy there is no cure. That also means that an allergy can interfere with any future medical procedures requiring materials that contain acrylates.
OP, My new client that I just finished a pedicure on 25 minutes ago (I’m cleaning the pedicure bowl right now) has been doing her nails for 8 months. She showed me photos of her work, and I saw her toenail polish. She was very careful and never got product on her skin. The opposite of you.
Listen to me carefully. It is not a matter of IF, it is a matter of WHEN. You WILL develop an allergy to all nail products with this kind of application. I’ve attached photos of how her nails looked. An allergy is UGLY, and means you can probably never get gel again. AND, it means you WILL be allergic to more things. The adhesive cement used in joint surgery and dental surgery, surgical glues for sutures, bandage adhesives, contact lenses, paints and varnishes, ANY resin based product, hair styling products, and the list goes on.
u/greyedathena ,FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. PAY A PROFESSIONAL TO DO YOUR NAILS AND DONT DEVELOP AN ALLERGY.
I say this with love as I am sick and f****** tired of people wanting to save a dime and leading to worse problems later on. My client last year rejected a knee replacement because of the chemicals in the adhesive cement.
