I got myself a piece of magnetic field viewing film and it REALLY helped me to understand how all my different magnets / effects work, so I thought I’d share some pictures here!
The real eye opener for me was how distance matters for some of the more detailed effects (like zigzag), and just understanding which parts of the magnet attract (yellow/bright lime green) vs repel (dark blue to emerald green).
Update to add a link to buy magnetic film! This is also my favorite shop for magnets in general. https://www.kjmagnetics.com/mv43-magnetic-viewing-film?pl=1.1&pf=film
