A few years ago I got into the Dashing Diva gel wraps. Eventually my nails started peeling so I stopped using them. Now, if I try to paint my nails, they just peel. I’ve been reading this sub and I plan to go get some jojoba nail oil. Other than that, is there any way to fix this? If I go a long time without painting my nails, they appear to fully heal and are normal again. Currently have some Ella and Mila repair something-or-other on them just to keep the nails from snagging on things and peeling more. Thanks!

I’m not an expert but i am also prone to exactly this. It’s almost like our nail constitution is like cardboard and any amount of stress and water cause its natural layers to start pulling apart. I know this sounds counterintuitive, but i think the better quality base coats work against us. They hold so strongly to the top layer that when something has to give, the bonds between our nail layers are weaker than the base coat and layers of lacquer above that our nail ends up being what gives.
I grew mine out all month to cut off the peeling from above where it starts. My plan is to moisturize, use gloves as much as I can when working with water, and to preemptively remove all polish before it starts chipping.
