I finally broke down and bought a magnetic stirrer because I cannot use the 3d printed contraption from S3J without destroying my mani (and it is so loud). The stirrer does not make a bead. It looks awful. AND I've smudged and dinged both hands already. I'm taking it off and doing something else because fuck magnetic polish.

If you’re really inspired, you can also try placing the 3d contraption ON TOP OF the magnetic spinner, then put finger in contraption while the electric spinner moves it (you prob need to give it a kickstart though). If you do that, set your speed alllllll the way down.

Edit: I’ve only done this with the contraption from 5d print factory though, so while that one works for me, I can gauruntee the sj3 will since I don’t have it to try.

    oh, yikes.

doing your nails ought to be relaxing. or at the very least.. if complicated, something you’re enjoying. whether the process or the finished look.

    i’m sorry you’ve had Such A Very Day 🙁

I’m so sorry you’re having a bad experience! I haven’t tried a lab stirrer because I honestly can’t figure out how they’re supposed to work and my windchime/lego setup is good enough.

Having said that, I actually love the effect you created in the picture – it looks like green apples blushing red.

I used the 5d spinner from etsy on top of the magnetic stirrer and was very successful with getting a glass bead, hopefully you give it another shot sometime.

I’m not sure how the spinner you have is different from mine, but with my spinner, the opening was too narrow with the small size and I kept bumping my nails on the top, so I upsized it to the medium one and had to train myself to pull it out flat instead of upward.

With the stirrer, I turned it on and at first it wasn’t doing anything, so I turned it all the way up, it still didn’t do anything, I turned it back down and I think the spinning inner magnet finally “caught” the one above and it started working. It was a little noisy, but I was watching Netflix and that kind of drowned it out.

Patience was key for all of this for me, I know when I get frustrated I’m much less careful and more likely to mess it up.
