I find it very therapeutic.

Thumb (first picture) broke after I clumsily smashed it into an iron gate :/

And I somehow snapped the tip off my middle finger (second pic) while over-zealously trying to remove leftover polish under my nail (lesson to self: don’t bother next time and stay crusty. )

Repaired with Orly repair kit, a good ol teabag patch, and since coated with Essie to the Rescue.

I’ve been pretty ashamed to admit it, but I buffed a few of my nails too hard .____.

My thumb has been very tender but the spot has grown out to about the quick and I’m scared it’s going to be flimsy without my thumb behind it. There is an odd divot (on an otherwise impeccably smooth surface) and I can’t stop running my finger over it.

I don’t actually know what to do about it.

My polish keeps chipping over it but my instincts want to build up something over it

I think a cool idea for broken nails would be to cover the cracks with metallic gold polish to look like those broken Japanese pottery pieces repaired with gold. That might be something fun to do if you enjoy the repairing process!

    Me! Kind of. 🤣

I had a bad break on one index finger, one end of the crack was down into the nail bed. It would have been painful to try to cut or pull it off. I’ve been babying two layers of silk wrap on it for what feels like ages but has probably been weeks 🤣

It’s suffering a bit now only because it’s grown out to the point one end of the crack is right in the middle of the new free edge so it wants to chip and crumble right there, which is extra annoying when it’s the very tip of your index! I filed it down maybe a bit too aggressively last night, so it is shorter than the other nails on that hand, but still not as short as it would be if I’d removed the broken piece entirely so I’m going to keep it patched a bit longer. I’m really proud it worked and I was able to keep it on this long! I’ve done some bad patches in the past that ripped up and just damaged my nail further so this was an especially successful one for me.

I love the process of actually creating the repair, but wearing it long enough for the grow out is a different story! I’m super sick of how chonky it is with all the layers of silk and glue on it. And I haven’t been wrapping that tip with polish so I can avoid exposing it to acetone as much as possible, so sometimes it looks a little weird in a mani. So ready for it to be long enough to just be itself with no patch.

Your repairs look great, I hope you’re able to keep them sturdy as long as you need!
