I posted this on r/AutismInWomen and tried to cross post it here, but it won't let me.

I've just started doing gel nails on myself, it's an absolute game changer. I hate how long regular nail polish takes to dry. Being able to cure nail polish and move on is amazing.

I started using polygel to help grow them out/stop picking/pulling my nails off. I'm super proud I've been able to get them this long.

I decided to make myself a sensory toy attached to my body, because I nearly always forget to bring a sensory toy/fidget with me when I leave the house.

The beauty of these nails is that I can press my whole thumb down on the top of the nails (if you prefer a more sharp sensation when fidgeting), I can drag my other nails over the bumps and even kind of lock the nails on both hands together and rub them together. I'm finding it's great for grounding, little finger massages, and they definitely helped while I was in my psychology appointment just now.

They're customisable to your preference.

You could do any shape or sharpness that you desire. Very discreet, as you're just touching your own nails, if you're someone who isn't okay with using sensory items in public.

They're definitely a sensory experience with intent. Obviously they're not for everyone, but I'm loving them.

Hope this helps someone else!

  1. Yessss! Sometimes I put the little gemstones on my accent nails so I can fiddle with them. Eta: Also, awesome on you for doing your nails to curb the picking! Part of why I do mine is to stop peeling the layers off my nails.
