I’ve been stuck on cat eye nail colors since they’re so fun and dimensional. My local salon I’ve been frequenting has these displays of the colors but I’ve been told that the colors are only the top row (see pic) the bottom row of colors is darker. The nail tech I have been seeing does great work and I appreciate his eye for detail and suggestions. I can tell he’s still learning the ways of the cat eye colors but I’m also still learning as well. Anywho, I’d love any advice on how I can achieve the darker bottom row shades of the colors so I can pass that along to my nail tech. Will I need a dark base color or do you need a few extra coats of color? Just wondering for my next visit

  1. To go from the top row to the bottom row, you’d definitely need to start with a dark base color, lightly black. You can actually create really cool and moody nails with cat eye over black, by pushing the magnetic particles away from the edges, so the black peeks through more.

Yeah a black or very deep complimentary base color has helped me a lot. That or apply the cat eye and add a deep jelly color on top n
