Disclaimer: I have no one to blame except myself for this decision and take full responsibility for this…

I asked my friend what colour nails to get and she suggested a shade of green that directly compliments my burgundy hair on the colour wheel. I’d never choose it personally (I always have either pink, burgundy or white tip nails, sometimes with a design but never glitter) but I thought ‘F it, let’s go for it’

Fast forward to me getting the nails done… I was hesitant but wanted to stick by my friend’s decision and not disappoint her, but also as a challenge to myself to do something out of my comfort zone.

However, I knew immediately, and I think the nail tech could tell, that I didn’t like them AT ALL. But I paid and thanked them etc because it was, at the end of the day, my decision…

Anyway, all day I have been trying to convince myself that I like them, that they have grown on me etc but I am SO anxious to go to work and socialise when I have obnoxiously bright nails that are very CLEARLY not my style or vibe at all. I do often wear black, so it wouldn’t be a major issue not matching outfits, but they feel so intense and distracting regardless of what I’m wearing…

Part of me wants to bite the bullet, tell my friend I really don’t like them, and get them repainted ASAP (which probably wouldn’t be for another week because of work etc) but I don’t want to upset my friend because she chose the colour and thinks they look really cool (they do, just not my taste at all)

my other friend told me I shouldn’t say anything other than that I wouldn’t get the colour again (which I kind of already have said) and stick it out for a bit. Also, I feel I ought to justify the money I spent on them but at the end of the day we have to pay for our mistakes one way or another…

I know it’s really not that deep but I’m genuinely super anxious about the whole situation (silly me) and don’t know what to do.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you !!! :’)

I’m so sorry that you are unhappy with them. I think they are absolutely stunning. I would wear them in a heartbeat. If they are gel, you can always take any dark regular polish you have and quickly top coat them.

  2. Just paint over them with a dark regular nail polish then a top coat until you have time to get them repainted. Regular nail polish isn’t that expensive at your local store, you can even get gel polish and a lamp if you want it to be more durable. That being said, they really don’t look bad and I’m someone who also exclusively wears dark colors.

  3. I think they look lovely and that you’re wayyy over thinking this. It’s not that serious 😊

  4. Girl no one else could care less what your nails look like. Being embarrassed to go in public because your nails are green is crazy.

  5. Hey OP, it’s okay. You are seriously overthinking this, I promise. No need to tell your friend, just don’t get the color again. I don’t mean this in a mean way, but this is not the end of the world, and you are the only person making this a big deal

  6. You took a risk and tried something new and learned that you didn’t like it. We all do it. You learned that lesson so it justifies the money spent. That said, life is short. Why spend time being anxious when the problem is simple to fix? You don’t need to waste time and energy pretending you like something that is upsetting you; even if it is just a small thing. Just get them repainted and if your friend asks you why, just tell her that while the color is pretty, it just doesn’t fit your personal vibe. It doesn’t have to be a big deal. Choose happiness.

  7. The good news is that unfortunately few people notice your nails even if they’re obnoxiously bright. If you get any comments just say you’re trying something new! It’s good to go out of your comfort zone once in a while to practice self confidence and confirm your tastes. Your nails look objectively great, it’s also okay if you’re not feeling them. This is what it means to challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone. You gotta complete the challenge!
