So this is an update to this post.
First, I just want to say thank you so much to all of you for educating me, telling it like it is and for making me laugh like crazy. Y'all are hilarious!
I went back to the original place and politely told the lady who was there (who worked on my husband's nails) that I'd like the nails removed and I'd like a refund. She filed down the tips and some of the acrylic. I asked her if I can soak the rest off and she said no it wouldn't be good for the nail because it was so fresh. I explained to her that the color was weirdly gray and she said (after filing most of the length off) that she could just put pink over top. I said no thanks I just want them removed. She then proceeded to put gel polish on top. And then she said NO CHARGE. As if I was thinking I was going to PAY for her to do that? No ma'am. I then reiterated that I wanted a refund. She said no, pointed to a tiny sign under the polish rack (that I didn't go to at all during my service) that said no refunds. She was saying that because she has to pay this guy who did it and is out the product that she couldn't refund me. I told her that it was not put on right, that literally 200 people on reddit told me this was wrong, and no I didn't want a gift certificate for $25. She said she didn't know how to refund my credit card (wild) and gave me $35 cash. Finally I just left. That was all I was going to get from her. Horrible.
Then I tried to calm down and went to a different place where I've had good experiences before. I was honestly shook up, and all the joy had been sapped from the experience of treating myself and doing something nice for myself at a time that I was feeling particularly uncute and needed it. So I asked them to just soak them off the rest of the way and do a gel manicure. The front desk lady there said she was certain that the previous place had put the tips on wrong and that it wasn't my fault, which was very nice of her.
I'm as happy as I can be with what I've got going on now. I'm so sad at how terribly short my pinkie nail is now, and how short he cut everything else. At least they're not gray anymore, and they'll grow out and in a few weeks I can get a new gel color and maybe some simple nail art. Lesson learned.

They look cute and at least you don’t have to be worried that they will tear your natural nails off.
I’m going to say what we all say in this sub when someone has borderline nightmare nails done, they ask for them to be removed and refunded, and the shop doesn’t do that and makes it worse:
Leave a review on the original nail place. With photos. Name and shame. Don’t dramatize, just state facts. Even if you just publicly post on Instagram and tag them on the photos.
And may I recommend giving 2 stars? 1 star, someone got mad. 2 stars? Oh they got *screwed*. They’re *p!ssed*.
People look at previous work. People see. Warn those who are looking to get their nails done. Help others avoid the wrong that was done to you.
Don’t be surprised if the owner begs you to take down your review. Up to you what you decide to do, but I recommend quoting their own words back to them: you asked for a refund. You asked for the nails to be removed. They didn’t remove them, they filed them down a bit, and painted over top, then they gave you $35 in cash. Not what you wanted, not what you asked for. They could have made it right for such little cost but that’s not what they chose.
I think French is not your best pick when your nails are this short. It makes them look even shorter. But good for you for removing the botched ones!
At this point just put a solid color over it bc these don’t look good either 😬
Oh that’s better. I actually sighed from relief. What a horrible situation to go through
I would avoid that salon at all costs. Stick with your regular salon.
If you go to a new salon, ask for their refund policy. Some will refund and redo your nails within a week.
Are your nails naturally angled upward or did they file them down like that?
I’m so sad that people are saying these don’t look good. Personally I’ve struggled with short nails due to biting (yay anxiety) and being able to get any sort of manicure, such as French manicures, was such a win. I think your hands look beautiful with this mani, your nails look healthy and I hope you get to enjoy them!
These look great! Sorry for everything you had to go through though 😬
That definitely looks a lot safer!
Much better!
