Now winter is coming, I hope this review helps anyone with oily but dehydrated skin, dry sensitive skin, or anyone who feels tightness right after washing their face. I have not seen many detailed moisturizer reviews on reddit yet, so it feels kind of fun and even a bit special to write this. I have oily skin but I am always told at esthetic clinics that my skin is dehydrated. When I do not sleep well or get stressed, I break out easily. I am not taking any acne medication. Here are the moisturizers I have tried recently :
-
Aestura atobarrier 365 cream : I knew this cream was famous for a long time, but I never actually tried it until now. It has little capsules in it and applies really lightly. A lot of people compare it to Illiyoon, but to me it feels softer and more moisturizing.I think it works well when I’m tired or right before my period.
-
Mary&may blackberry cream : I am a huge fan of the Mary&may serum, so I expected this cream and think to be thick and heavy. But the texture is actually like a hydrating gel cream with a lot of nourishment packed inside. When I apply it at night, I wake up with soft and hydrated skin. The texture is silky and spreads really nicely. If you expect a rich heavy cream, you might be disappointed, but if you want something lightweight and hydrating with a really full moisture feel, you will like this.
-
Torriden dive in cream : I discovered this one through reddit because no one around me was using it. lol. It is super hydrating, but I think it suits summer a little more than winter for me. Still a great option if you want something light but moisturizing.
-
Dear. Klairs midnight blue calming cream : I use this when my skin is irritated and I need a cream, not a serum. It does not break me out, but it also did not give me the strong calming effect I hoped for. I do not really feel much calming from it, but it is hydrating, and I still put it on when my skin reacts, maybe just because it is called the "calming cream"
-
Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream : I saw this one recommended a lot on reddit too, so I bought it. The texture is very similar to Aestura but a bit thicker, and it has small capsules inside. It feels very hydrating when applied, but the scent is not really my favorite. Still a solid moisturizing cream.
-
Himalaya Cream : I used this a long time ago and it worked really well when I lived in a very dry country. But now that I live somewhere more humid, it clogs my pores and causes breakouts, so I only use it on my body. But back when I was in India, I used it every single day.
-
Kiehl’s ultra facial cream : I only use this cream during winter. At first it felt too thick, so I did not reach for it often, but in really cold weather it actually helps a lot. It does not make me wake up feeling super moisturized, but it does keep my skin from losing moisture overnight. It has a slightly glossy finish, so some people might not like that, but I still think it is a good product. The only problem is the price. lol.
- Regardless of the season : mary&may, torriden
- Only winter : Illiyoon, Himalaya
- lighter texture : mary&may, torriden, dear.kliars
- thicker texture : atobarrier, Illiyoon, Himalaya, Kiehl
- Day routine : mary&may, torriden
- Night routine : everything
I use mary&may in the morning, and at night I choose based on how my skin feels that day. I still get breakouts sometimes, but my skin has definitely become healthier. I hope you all find your own best products. Thanks for reading my post!

Is this klairs calming cream different than the og ..this looks gel consistency as well
I like the little stars, very charming. Nothing to say about the skincare tho lol
Could you please drop a mini review of mary and may idebenone serum and what it did for your skin?
Wow, it has all the products I’ve been wanting to try!
that illiyoon is a fantastic occlusive.
No way I just spotted Himalaya?????😭 it’s sooooo uncommon to see Indian brands being included in Asian beauty. ♥️
Bean Essence cream from Mixsoon is sooo good when the weather starts getting colder
Thanks for the breakdown! I was between Illiyoon and Aestura for my night moisturizer. I prefer lightweight during the day and thicccc at night (dry skin). Based on this, I may try the Aestura first!
Is the torriden dive in cream similarly moisturizing as the kiehls facial cream? I’ve been looking for a dupe. It’s the only moisturizer that works for my face
can vouch for the illiyoon one. its getting quite cold where i live and its been great so far by itself even without layering
I use illyoon and love it, but feel I need something that is more moisturizing any suggestions?
I loved the texture of the mary&may cream and got it bc i love the essence. Such a nice rich, occlusive texture that still sunk into the skin, but it broke me out when i used it in the summer 🙁
It’s sat in my drawer ever since and even tho i know id probably get on better with i now that the weather is cooler and the nights aren’t so sweaty, im still hesitant bc my skin is so acne prone
Have you tried Laneige Waterbank Intensive Cream? My friend keeps raving about it and now I’m curious.
I love the mary&may moisturizer. It has an amazing, lovely texture. I rarely see people talk about it compared to dr. althea, aestura, illiyoon ato etc.
Stylevana had a sale for it $35 for 2 (canadian here). Just thought I’d throw that out.
I’ve had horrible luck with moisturizers. My favourites used to be Avène Recovery and Soon Jung Barrier cream, but the former got discontinued and the latter got reformulated so bad that it seems like a completely different product.
I remembered all the hype about Illyoon and spontaneously grabbed it at a new local kbeauty shop in my town and got terrified after because apparently it’s another victim of reformulation. 😭 But I started using it- the 2025 version- and it’s the first moisturizer in such a long time that actually moisturizes my skin, reduces redness, and doesn’t break me out. I’m obsessed with it. I just hope I can get my hands on more before the inevitably change it up again. 😂
The scent is definitely not the selling point of the cream, but I’ll gladly tolerate it!
I tried the Aestura one and unfortunately it caused closed comedones. Sad because I wanted it to work!
i recommend the dear klairs rich moist soothing moisturizer!!!! love it more than the illiyoon
Have you used the Dr Althea 147 Barrier Cream? I’m very curious to hear what other people think.
What’s the difference between the Torriden Dive In vs the Solid In?
