I've been doing my own nails for 5 years, but recently I started just doing gel on my natural nail, but it only lasts 3 days and then it lifts off.

I do all the preparation (which I have always used) which includes creating porosity, dehydrating and applying primer/adhesive.

I still don't know why it keeps coming off.

Well it sounds like you do the standard, buff-dehydrate-prime.

I’m not a tech so my advice is anecdotal. Sometimes if you apply too close to the cuticles, water can seep in a bit and cause lifting. Applying too thick may be it as well— this is the more likely cause. I recommend applying super thin in layers.

On the pinky the product looks very close to the skin. Please be careful never to cure when there is any gel on skin! You can cause a permanent allergy to develop.

From the picture you posted, the polish looks overly thick, I’m seeing some flooding, and your cuticles don’t look properly prepped – all of these factors can contribute to lifting and a shorter life for your manicure.

The same happens to me when I wear gel over my natural nails. I’ve been doing my own nails for about 5 years and the only thing that works for me is having a hard gel as a base. My nails are too flexible under gel polish so it pretty much peels off in a day.

I would not do this again until you’re excellent at getting all regular polish and other product off your skin quickly. Because with gel, you’re rolling the dice with an allergy that would negatively affect the rest of your life. You *do not want* an acrylate allergy.
