Recently my nails began to grow bumpy each nail looks differently and it’s a bit scary. I haven’t used acrylic nails in about a year since they’re expensive to maintain in this economy. I’ve used press on nails only once in a blue moon and the last time was about three months ago. I can’t see a dermatologist until the middle of the month an refuse to go down the google rabbit hole trying to search up reasons. Just asking around.

  1. My nails have always grown like this, and I do mean always, from childhood my nails have been a bit bumpy and textured and they grow like that consistently.

Someone else will probably comment that you might have this or that medical condition but remember to not take what anyone here says as gospel and just wait until your derm appointment to get some answers.

This happens to me if i’v had fakes on or I don’t bite them for awhile it’s a mix of lack of vitamins, damage to the nail bed and damage to the cuticle I think just bad nail care in general is why mine are like this I tick all those boxes.

As somebody who used to bite my nails badly, it looks like trauma to the nail bed, whether from artificial nails of any kind, nail biting, other injuries, sometimes they can take years to grow out. I had a damaged nail that would “grow the dent out” fully. Then once that nail cycle had completed and the dent been clipped away…the same dent would show up at the cuticle and the cycle would repeat, had that happen for about 4 years.

If you glue on nails always remove them as gently as possible and I recommend using builder gel underneath to protect your natural nail as much as possible.

Do you pick at or rub your cuticles and nails? I have this problem on my thumbs specifically and it is due to nail bed trauma from my bad habits around picking at my cuticles.
