I've heard so many people say you just get used to it, but I can't even fathom anything longer than this for more than a day or two.
I used to be a skin/nail picker and mostly kicked the habit (though I can't stand feeling snags or rough edges, so I must have a nail file in reach at all times to stop myself from picking when that happens). If I have polish on my nails, I'm less likely to pick or bite, so I've gotten in the habit of using clear gel to protect them and give them some strength. Doing this, I've been able to actually grow them out, which has been amazing, because they look so pretty and I want to see them longer (and I do so love the click-clack of tapping on things haha), but also frustrating because when they get any longer than this, I can no longer function. I work with my hands all the time and I feel like I can't properly do ANYTHING with long nails.
I so admire all of the gorgeous nails I see here, but the idea of extensions feels downright claustrophobic. I've used some long-ish press-ons before, and after a few days it feels like my fingers have been in solitary confinement and I yearn to touch the world again lol.

Those are perfect length 👍
Those are medium length not long
For me personally, my naked nails are awful, they split, crack and peel as they grow which is painful so having my fake nails longer helps.
As it’s October right now my nails are stupid long and it really is just getting used to it.

This is the length I have right now and you can see my nails under the tips. I’m sure repeated removal and application doesn’t help but after only one day with my naked nails I need to put something on them. ( this length is excessive because they’re Halloween alien themed, usually they’re cut about halfway down )
I normally grow mine out to the length of the nail bed but they tend to curve downward so I don’t keep them longer than that. I just cut mine down to almost as short as your photo but to me, they feel uncomfortably short. Everyone has their preference.
Yeah I can’t keep my natural nails long. They need to stay a medium length like yours. They just break too often when they’re too long no matter what I do. I like press ons and fake nails but I totally had that claustrophobic feeling the first few times I wore them too. Some people can get over it with time, some can’t.
For people who grow theirs out, you just keep adapting. The change is gradual so you have time to adjust. I’m so used to doing things with nails that I struggle if I have short nails. I wear different types of gloves for a lot of things which helps too I think?
I’m letting mine grow out just so the nail bed grows too, but after that I’m cutting them just a lil longer than the free edge and thats it. I too yearn to touch the world lol.
Mine aren’t super long, but after a while you just get used to it. If your nails have always been pretty short then you’re probably used to using the very tippy tops of your fingers to do things, but if your nails are a little longer you just adjust the angle a little bit until your finger pads are touching where you need them to again. Like, typing with my nails is completely fine and they don’t get in my way at all, same with crocheting. Sometimes restringing can be kind of annoying if the beads are too small because I’ll “lose” them under my nail and have to shake them back out into my palm before I can pick them up properly to thread them lol.
I will say, the one thing I stop being able to do when my nails hit a certain length is put jewelry on lol. If my nails get just a millimeter too long, I suddenly can’t handle clasps or earring backs without severely risking breaking a nail 😔
I have issues with fake long nails because it’s a sudden change, but if they’re my real nails it happens gradually so I barely even notice it.
