Magnetic polish blunder

So, what did I do wrong (other than i am a messy painter)? My pointer and ring finger are thr most obvious, there is lots of magnetic particles but very little base color is showing so it's not much of that magnetic look to it.

I'm using mooncat polish, I placed the larger side of their magnetic under my finger while painting my nail and for at least 30 seconds after. I also did this for the top coat.

Is it too thick of a coat of polish?

FYI, I have terrible vision so I really struggle with this up close work.
