this has been talked about. it is because they’re trying to figure out how to deal with the tariffs and they’re pausing any packages that would would arrive after that date as they communicate, put new systems in place, figure out how the tariffs will be paid, etc.

From my understanding, Japan Post IS still shipping to the US in the form of goods (letters, gifts, etc) that are valued under $100 USD. Theoretically, you could place an order w/ a site that utilizes Japan Post, it would just need to be categorized as a gift. BuyMeJapan for example did this w/ my recent order that I placed just in time before the tariffs would go into effect. UPS, DHL, & FedEx remain unaffected, so branches there would still ship overseas. That said… I read there being some sort of $80 per item fee ontop of the tariffs. Unlike the tariffs though, this is very much temporary and will only be a thing til the end of Feb 2026. Things with Japan Post may very well be resolved by then.
