Hey! So I was at Costco today and spotted this SEKKISEI Emulsion Moisturizer set that looked interesting. ($30 after rebate) It’s the blue bottle from KOSÉ – that Japanese brand – and the set comes with both a full size and travel size, which seems like a decent deal.
I haven’t actually tried this specific product yet, but I do like Japanese skincare in general. Looking at the ingredient list though, it’s pretty telling about what this product is trying to do. The herbal extracts are really the star here – angelica, coix seed (Job’s tears), and moutan bark are all traditional ingredients in Japanese and Chinese medicine that are supposed to help with skin brightening and evening out your complexion. Coix seed especially is known for helping with dullness and rough texture. Then there’s the ascorbyl glucoside, which is a stable vitamin C derivative that’s gentler than straight vitamin C but still gives you some of those brightening and antioxidant benefits.
From these ingredients, it seems like this is really targeting people who want to work on dull, uneven skin tone rather than just basic hydration. The fact that it’s an emulsion with all these botanical extracts suggests it’s going for that traditional Japanese approach – gentle but consistent results over time rather than dramatic overnight changes.
Has anyone actually tried this one? I’m curious if it lives up to what the ingredients suggest, especially for brightening. The Costco price seems decent but I’d love to hear if it’s actually worth picking up!
