My thoughts:
It was really cool to finally visit Olive Young in person as I used to shop on their global store in 2022 before their prices became ridiculous. In Seoul there is least one, but often multiple store fronts on every main street akin to GS25 or CU lol, and these standard stores were pretty decently stocked.
I did also visit their megastores:
•Myeongdong – Honestly so overwhelming that I fled with quickness (can be said for the whole shopping district in general lol).
•Seongsu – their biggest store that spans 5 floors and was luckily not that busy on the day I went. This location also stocks more premium Korean brands like Hera, and has a small offering of international brands like Kerastasse and Mac.
I also love that they do instant tax refunds on purchases over 15,000 won when you simply hand your passport to the cashier or scan it at the self check out!
I’d say if you’re from Australia, you’re not really missing out on TOO much? We’re very spoilt for choice with local online and in-person Asian beauty retailers. Prices are pretty equivalent and I’d say they actually offer a more convenient experience as they stock many brands not available at Olive Young stores (like HaruHaru, Axis Y and Klairs). I was surprised to see with every Olive Young I went to they had the same random 6 Romand Glasting tints on display, whereas my local W Cosmetics has every colour released, including collaborations. I also found it funny a Torriden product I wanted wasn’t available at any Olive Young store I went to, so I actually had to wait to come home and buy it here!
