I haven’t seen anyone talking about these Build Your Own palettes from Cheeryep (well, 2 creators on TikTok, and some bits on Qianyan’s XHS page, but not much else!)
I have my suspicions why (it is not very affordable), but thought I’d share my palette and my experience so far!
Cheeryep/Qianyan is one of my FAVE C-beauty brands. I think their eyeshadow palettes are amazing, and the quality is probably the best in my collection, IMO. So, I was excited to create my very own curated version.
**How it works**
Well, as you imagine. It’s BYO so you buy the empty palette and the individual pans. You can choose 4 or 12 slots, and some pans take up 1 slot, 2 slots or 4 slots depending on how you want to combine them.
I bought mine from CBeautyMall (the only option I could find shipping to Europe) and NGL it was EXPENSIVE. Each pan ranged on average from $7-16 and the palette was $16, so in total this was a mind-boggling $100. So we’re talking luxury prices here. I would also add that I HIGHLY DOUBT it’s this expensive in Asia. I’ve seen CBeautyMall charging way more than everyone else (sometimes to a laughable degree) for products, so I think they can be a rip-off. But at the moment no other of my regular C-beauty shops are offering the BYO, and I really wanted to try this, so it was worth it for me.
Note: If you choose more of the single matte eyeshadows, it would be a bit more affordable. But other types (face, large blush pans, special finishes like duochromes) really ramp up the price.
**Packaging**
Everything was extremely well-packaged – nothing was cracked or broken at all.
The palette is GORGEOUS. The most luxurious-feeling palette I own. It’s sleek, heavy-quality feeling with a huge mirror inside. It feels very well made and the style is a 10/10 for me. Classic and chic, but with a cool twist to make it unique.
**The thought process**
A quick note on how I chose what I chose. Seeing as this was going to be pricey, I wanted a “forever” palette of things that I wouldn’t get sick of. I wanted it to be a “go-to” palette that could achieve all the looks I like to do, that I find flattering on me. (I tend to lean on cool-neutral looks that lean mauve/pink.)
I also wanted it to be a good travel palette, so it would be multi-use, and incorporate a few different routine steps into one convenient palette.
**The products**
***Face powder***
A neutral-translucent powder I could use for setting oily areas. I also wanted it to be more white-toned so I can use it as an inner corner eye highlight/use to lighten other colours.
This does its job! It’s pigmented enough to use as a light wash of eyeshadow/packed on for a highlight, but on a face brush it doesn’t leave a cast on me. (Bear in mind I am pale)
It’s a different texture powder to the eyeshadows, so it’s defo a “face” formula, which I appreciate.
