With sunscreens I do because I’m not trynna have the UV rays destroy my hard worked for collagen lol
But for example the Elixir Lotion and emulsion both say to use approximately around a 500 yen sized dollop of product. If I used that much I’d finish the product in a month or less. I understand the logic with sunscreen, but won’t you still get some effect even if you don’t use the full recommended amount?

Looking forward to hearing what you guys think 👀

    1. Like you said, sunscreen yes. But other products? No 😂 My lotion and emulsion say 3 pumps each on a cotton pad. I only use one pump and it covers my neck as well. Using the recommended amount left me with a bunch of excess product to spread all over my arms 🫠

Tbh, if you feel like the amount you’re using is moisturizing and hydrating enough, you don’t have to use the recommended amount.

    2. I use the amount recommended online, typically tiktok. So like two pumps of that. Or what seems right to me. Eg with my moisturizer, I have just come to know how much is better for me, sometimes I’ll put more for more moisture others times less. But I would avoid using TOO little as I fear it won’t be doing the work it’s supposed to, like the sunscreens. Some products I’m generous with, like my toner but it comes in a 500ml bottle so yeah

    3. I have a travel size pump bottle of DHC cleansing oil and the recommended amount is 5 pumps IIRC. It’s a ridiculous amount, I use 2 pumps and that is already a bit more than enough. It feels like a very blatant attempt to make you waste oil and buy more.

    4. trial and errors for me. some i use a lot while some i use lesser. for example I can use a lot of toner but little not a lot of moisturiser.

    5. So I’m a little off the norm here. For eg the BOJ retinol – I know a “pea size” amount is recommended. But I have a large face (not kidding !) & I’m very “generous” in my applications. So I need a ton more than pea sized 🙄. Else I feel like I left out some areas !

Same with serums. I never understand how people use like 2 dropper fulls of the Skinfood propolis for eg. If I want to cover neck & décolleté I need like 4 full droppers. Legit.

Good thing I have a lot of products in my rotation ! I would have gone bankrupt if Asian skincare wasn’t affordable !

It’s also my nature to not “mix” actives. So that helps some. For eg I won’t go Vit C + Retinol + this + that. I use only 1 active per night & moisturiser. That’s it !

I do Vit C alternate days (either 20% non AB or 23% CosRx) so I feel alternate days is good enough antioxidation !

    6. I have a tiny face… so no, i typically use less than recommended, except maybe oil cleansers? Idk.

For sunscreen- admittedly I don’t use the correct amount every day. I just don’t have the energy to measure it out all the time. Because of my tiny face, I don’t need the traditionally ‘recommended’ amount- the full 1/4 tsp is too much and feels bad on my skin. I measured my face, calculated using 2mg/cm^2, and then round up a bit to account for product loss on my finger tips, and usually will weigh out the right amount. The problem I run into- it’s painfully difficult to keep my little scale always charged. Some is better than none.

For everything else- idk how much is even recommended? I usually do 2-3 drops for my whole face for a serum. ~0.2mL for liquidy products like toners and for moisturizers, and 1-2 drops for oils (1 drop if mixing with moisturizer, which I do with squalene, and 2 drops for treatment oils). Oil cleansers I’ll probably use 1mL or so.
