Note: there is a dokdo lotion and a dokdo cream. they are two separate products. This review is for the lotion, not the cream.
My skin: ranges from combo-oily. My forehead is more oily with some texture, and I have active cystic acne and hyperpigmentation on my checks.
Goal with my skincare: My overarching goal with my skincare routine is to get rid of hyperpigmentation and active acne.
Texture and fragrance: it has a thinner, more water based texture. I actually enjoy this aspect of it, as it feels like lightweight and hydrating without being too heavy. Based on this criteria, it’s great for a daytime/ summer moisturizer. It has no smell at all, absolutely 0 fragrance, which I enjoy as fragrance can sometimes break me out.
Price and size: I payed 21$ for 100 ml, but can be bought online for 17. I used this for a month and a half and barely even dented the bottle. It would probably last a really long time.
Overall thoughts: I think this is a really great moisturizer. I think pretty much all skin types could use it, though drier skin may need an extra serum or moisturizer layered on top during winter or drier seasons. If you are unsure what moisturizer may work for you, this is a great safe option. This moisturizer did not irritate me or break me out, though it didn’t change anything significantly in my skin other then providing hydration. I really like to have a cleanser and moisturizer that is more neutral and basic, and my toners and serums are the more active steps that treat my acne, and the dokdo lotion does just that.
My tips:
– Wait just a little bit longer to apply it after your serum/ spot treatment/ toner steps. Since it’s water based, if you apply it right after the step before, it can feel like you’re mixing them together.
– Use it during the summer or the daytime. In my personal experience, it’s lighter weight formula is great for daytime or humid, summer climate.
– Don’t squeeze too hard at first when using the bottle. It’s not too difficult to learn how hard to press on the bottle, but the bigger opening makes for more product to come. I aim to apply a quarter size each time.
