Dermatologist Dr. Shereene Idriss rebrands her skincare company PillowtalkDerm as “Dr. Idriss” after facing potential legal action over the name, presumably from Charlotte Tilbury

I have mixed feelings. I’ve always liked Dr. Idriss and while I think her products are out of my budget at present I do think she is someone who has genuinely put thought and research into what she released and it isn’t just a cash grab.

That being said, as an attorney, I’m not sure how that name wasn’t immediately caught by someone doing a quick USPTO search and realizing that Charlotte Tilbury’s “pillow talk” is their flagship product in the cosmetics world. While they don’t have any skincare products in the pillow talk “line” yet, I could see why they’d want to be able to remain identifiable in the marketplace as the only skincare products with “pillow talk” in the name.

Frankly though, it never even occurred to me that they were both using “pillow talk” in their branding, but I’ve followed Dr. Idriss separately long before her product line so I’m probably not representative of the average consumer.

I don’t blame CT for doing what they need to do to secure brand recognition, but I’m not particularly excited to purchase things from them moving forward.
