With thanks to the helpful laquerist(a)s who gave me advice on how to get the velvet effect that I love! I know it's no glass bead sorcery, but thought I'd share my low-tech setup with y'all because it made me laugh. It's a pair of pliers with neodymium bars stuck on each handle – I originally had them stuck to the front part (the pinchy bits!) because I thought it'd be good to be able to adjust how close together the magnets were, but then found this position made a pretty perfect size gap for me to pop a finger in between them. It's also important that it's sitting on top of a leaflet thing for a little height 😅

The rest of the photos are attempts to show off my red velvet results. It's hard to capture but really glows in the sunlight!

Product list:

  • A England The Knight base coat
  • 1 coat Catrice Caught On the Red Carpet (dark red creme which I used as an undie, actually not sure this needed one!)
  • 1 coat Ard As Nails 010326H – this was an "oops"/proto polish, sorry! I'm sure this sub can find a dupe though! It's a purple-leaning/wine red magnetic with holo
  • Prism Polish Glaze top coat
