My BKL Wise Witch Winter randomly exploded. I didn't drop it. It didn't hit anything. I missed it the first time so I just got it on my last order which was delivered last week. I was swatching polishes tonight to decide on my birthday manicure and as it was sitting on my desk it just broke?? I don't understand how this happened. All the posts I've seen of people's polishes breaking were from drops. Has anyone had this happen? Was it pressure? I wasn't able to open it so I just set it aside but its not like I was trying to force it open or anything. This was the one I was looking forward to the most. Now I'm worried because I couldn't open Blade of the Frontiers either that I also just got and am worried that means its going to randomly explode too. Also any tips on getting that stain out of my desk mat ? Dawn powerwash and shout did not work 😅

For the stain, maybe acetone? I have a cotton mat that I spilled a bright pink polish on once, and I have never been able to fully get it out, even with acetone 🙁 I’m sorry about the explosion! That’s scary!

  2. I was literally just cautiously eyeing my BKLs the other night, I noticed that their bottles are very full and I’m pretty sure the reason that the Mooncat bottles exploded was overfilling (not sure by how much though, most indies are actually over 15ml but usually not as much as my BKLs). Nail polish bottles are made so that there is room at the top, so sometimes they look “underfilled” but are actually the correct amount. Polishes advertised as 15ml bottles are actually able to hold 17, 11ml bottles hold 13ml, you get the picture.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong though!

I’m so sorry this happened! Glass is a strange material and can do this kind of thing sometimes. Or maybe they were banged up during shipping. I don’t think (hope) this should become a regular occurrence with these, unless BKL had a bad batch of bottles or something.

I’m wondering if there was maybe like a hairline crack in the bottle somewhere created during shipping, something unnoticeable if you’re not looking for it. I know it’s no use speculating when it can’t be confirmed, but I’m still curious.

  5. I hope you can contact CS and get a replacement bottle! Might be hard to convince because they can totally say “uh huh, surrreeee it just exploded sitting there”… But worth a shot?

  6. This can happen due to the nail polish expanding/contracting due to temperature changes. It happened to me with an overly full bottle of Zoya 15 years ago (my own fault, it was not full from the factory fill level, I combined two used bottles). I didn’t witness it happen but later discovered a broken bottle with dried nail polish everywhere.

This definitely shouldn’t happen with a new untouched bottle, it has only ever happened to me once and it was my own fault. Scary! I would reach out to the brand about this.
