Okay so I bought ILNP polishes for the first time and with that, magnetic polishes! I've never used magnetic polishes before so I was really excited, the promo images looked so cool!
HOWEVER
When I tried using them, they didn't turn out like how I thought. So I'm wondering if I'm stupid or if I got some duds? Including the magnet maybe?
Or maybe I need to dilute the polishes with thinner…I have the orly one!
Lemme know anything I can do to improve/ fix !

Magnetics have a learning curve, for sure. If you’re referring to all the colours you’re seeing in the product photos, studio lighting is misleading- polishes often don’t look how they do in promo shots in real life.
Did you use a quick dry top coat and magnetize the top coat as well?
You need to hold the magnet over the polish immediately after it is painted on the nail, and hold it for at least 30 seconds. hold it as close as possible without touching. You should see a better result than this.
After applying top coat you need to magnetize as well.
There is a learning curve, and unfortunately I would chalk this up to “user error” although it’s more like “user inexperience”.
> I have the orly thinner
Throw that out *IMMEDIATELY* and never use it in *ANY* nail polish.
Orly’s thinner is methyl acetate. Methyl acetate is not an ingredient normally found in nail polish and it will at best make the polish behave abnormally and at worst completely ruin it. The only ingredients that should be in a nail polish thinner are butyl acetate and ethyl acetate. (And toluene *only* if you’re using it in a topcoat that already has toluene). As a general rule of thumb, you don’t want to add anything to your nail polish that wasn’t already in it to begin with.
Edit to add: I guess you might be able to use it as nail polish remover if you don’t have some other use for methyl acetate and don’t want to throw it out. Just don’t put it *in* the nail polish.
My shooting star looks the same. Doesn’t matter how long I hold the magnet for I can never see the purple background clearly. I’m so disappointed in it every time
