hey guys,

I just found a tube of the Round Lab Birch Sunscren that expired in early January this year (26) which is unopened. i feel like it is such a waste to throw it away bc I spend money on it. Researching about it didn't help either because the articles weee about already opened sunscreens.

So my question is: Is it safe to use?

I love this sunscreen so much that I wouldn’t care and I will use it! I think you are in a better place since you haven’t open it.

  2. For the SPF protection it will not be as effective and this can lead to sunburn, etc.

  3. Honestly since it’s unopened you are probably fine? It does have one fermented ingredient, so i would spot test it somewhere sensitive that isn’t your face and go from there, but personally i wouldn’t worry about it

  4. It’s chemical so yes, it would be less effective but it’s not like effectiveness drops to zero overnight. Personally, I would use it ASAP for light application (treat it more like an SPF 30 vs. 45) for ambient sunlight, etc. and throw it out ~6 months later if still not done with it.

  5. It’s probably still fine to use as a regular moisturizer, but I wouldn’t rely on it for sun protection anymore, the SPF filters have likely degraded, so it’s not giving you the same level of UV coverage.

  6. Stability studies would not be conducted to past 3 years, so who knows if it works? But there’s a good chance it will.
