The Spring Market in Jackson, MS was last weekend, and ended up canceled after a day due to a fire. A vendors booth went in flames, burning down others and every single vendor in the building had their merchandise covered in soot – beyond repair. Since then, the venue and the vendor involved have been quite limited on what they’re sharing so I wanted to post it here to get it out.
Straight Ahead Beauty (hair tool company) attended this event, and had multiple hair styling stations (2nd photo is their same setup at a different event). When the event concluded for the day, all vendors left around 8:00-8:30pm. Straight Ahead Beauty left their styling tools plugged in at their booth when they had left.
The fire broke out around 10:00pm the same night, this is estimated as a nearby booth had a security camera that caught the smoke in the air.
The venue ended up refunding tickets to every customer, and there has been no word as to if the vendors are going to be refunded their $800 booth rent.
Straight Ahead beauty claimed they left their booth with the tools plugged in because the tools were supposed to “automatically turn off”, and that one of the tools must’ve malfunctioned. I, however, feel it’s completely negligent of them to leave with their tools ON and even plugged in regardless because who does that? The first photo of the pure ashes includes 3 surrounding booths that completely burned down as a result.
Anywho, they’re trying to keep everything as hush as possible but this event devastated a lot of business from here and those who traveled across states to vend here.
TL;DR: Straight Ahead Beauty (hair tool company) left their tools plugged in, which caused a fire at our venue market.

I’m so sad for the three surrounding booths. I hope they rally together and take Straight Ahead’s ass to court because this is a level of idiocy and negligence that is frankly unparalleled.
Hopefully the have insurance
wow… they’re lucky no one was hurt and nothing worse happened.
Lawyer time!!!
I was wondering when we’d find out which vendor was responsible! I’m not local anymore, but I’ve been following this story. So sad for all the other vendors whose stuff is ruined!!
Appliances with auto shut off features are for when you accidentally forget to turn something off or unplug something. It should be used as the default. How stupid can you be?
I feel like a lot of us are feeling justified when people tell us we are overreacting because we go home to make sure our straightener is unplugged.
I’m so sorry to everyone involved and hope you are able to recoup all costs.
oof. I could see this being something insurance contests, It’s always known at conventions in general that if you don’t unplug at the very least you shut power off to the strips or box the product is connected to. It’s going to get messy.
