So I've been out of the lacquer loop for a while and didn't realize that some BKL polishes are impossible to find! I got this polish from their avengers collection when it dropped years ago, and I went to their website to find that any polishes pre-2023 are completely unavailable! What's more is that even scouring the internet I can't find anything about this particular polish.

Has anyone else run into this with BKL? Its super disappointing but maybe I'm naive to the world of indie polishes.

  1. Even at the time she did limited runs of polishes I believe. I see this one was from 2019. I think in 2023 she thought she would need to shut down for good so she did a huge liquidation sale, then came back. She still does limited runs and releases but if you sign up for the email you’ll get a good amount of heads up.

If you’re looking for older BKL, I’ve had the best luck with some of the FB groups for polish swaps. I managed to put together the whole Resident Evil Village collection from 2021 for not too much above MSRP except for maybe 2 polishes, and I’m almost done with The Witcher collection too.

There are quite a few brands that do this but IMO BKL is one of the worst ones, and I say this as someone who has at least 20 BKL polishes and appreciates the quality of the product itself. I’ve seen people justify the limited drops by saying that it’s a one or two-person business and while that may be true, I find their business model to be quite predatory. New collections every month that sell out pretty fast due to large fanbase, with re-releases 2 months after that sell out even faster because people had time to post personal swatches and convince those who were on the fence about purchases… and then periodical, very-limited-quantity “back from the vault” sales where they just happen to find enough pigment in storage for 10 extra bottles. Sorry, but if this isn’t capitalising on FOMO then I don’t know what it is.
