I don’t think I’ve seen this method on this sub before so I thought I’d share!
I know we all love our glass beads on this sub, and I’m no different. However, on my actual nails I always have trouble with dispersion—after topcoat and a few hours I get something that looks more like a horizontal cat eye. Still beautiful! But not what I’m fixated on. Tiny bead methods are also still gorgeous, but also subject to dispersion which makes the outline of the bead less sharp.
If you’re like me, on a quest for a super sharp, circular glass bead, look no further! I used a stack of disk magnets (commonly used for mounting various things on walls) on a mag spinner and it gave me a suuuper sharp version of the tiny bead that I’ve seen here before. The best part is it stays nice and uniform after topcoat, even after a full day! The later part of the video shows a comparison w other bead methods—all after topcoat and a full day.
Pros: super sharp borders and circular shape, like a little bead 🙂
Cons: the bead is somewhat limited as to how much it “moves” in the light if that makes sense. It stays mostly in its own little area.
I magnetized each coat (3) for 60 seconds, as well as the topcoat to get it as sharp as possible. I did this for the comparison swatches too. This might be a long time for some of us—but I’ve also had pretty great results w magnetizing only the third coat and topcoat.
I hope this is helpful for someone!

An easier method is by using a bar magnet and criss cross it on your nail. When I did it, it was even crispier than this method. Granted, after some dispersion, it was not as crispy
Edit: by easy, I mean people are more likely to have bar magnets. These alternative methods also don’t require any additional equipment
Also, I’m super interested in what you’re wearing on your nails! Looks amazing
This is really cool! Thanks for posting.
I love this science incubator type stuff. Thank you for sharing your research!
I got a mixer thing yesterday this is incredible. That was a PhD in magnetics 👩🔬
I’m definitely breaking my fingers if I try that 🤣
Do you have a link or more info about the magnet spinner? I did a quick internet search to no avail.
