I get my nails done as a form of self-care and relaxation. I try to go at times that the shop is not full because I understand that you can make more money the more people you see, but sometimes I wish the tech would slow down and be a bit more intentional when doing my nails…
Though I love the color I got today, I feel like they look a bit messy. Some are sharper than others, some are crooked, and my real nails got cut which I specially asked not to happen as I’m growing them out to use builder gel in the future.. Just not the best experience when I needed a pamper day, so looking for tips in the future on how to speak up in the moment if I’m not happy with service or direction it’s going.

Ooh those nails look beautiful, and they seem near perfect to me… glossy, clean, even. If there’s things you don’t like, you should really say something as soon as you see something – as soon as she grabs the scissors, say something like “Oh I don’t want my nails cut.” – She may have gotten swept away in the routine of things. Maybe she’s new, or misunderstood.
I’m not sure how to advise. Unfortunately taking more time doing a set will mean she has to charge more. Considering the shop manager’s policies, if they don’t charge more and she goes slower anyway, this may get her in trouble.
This is a request you’re better off making from an independent tech.
OMG. What color is that?! It’s literally the perfect red for you! I need it! Haha.
You need to have a conversation with them BEFORE they get started and explain why you’re in there and what you would like to see. If they don’t/wont do it then you need to find a new tech. Independent techs usually take their time and are a lot more mindful. Speaking as one lol
Start a casual conversation. I like to compliment them. Something that you genuinely like about them, acknowledge and compliment. The tech is going to go at the speed that they need to, but many people are okay with conversation and that can lead to a prolonged time doing your nails.
But don’t hold them up too long or you can get them in trouble if they are working on a time crunch. Be mindful that’s their job and probably their livelihood.
Your nails look beautiful! But I hear your pain. That’s part of the reason I started doing my own nails at home. I have my own ‘spa day’ with catching up on netflix binge-worthy shoes or listening to music and taking my time on my nails. It has a learning curve, but it has prevented the additional stress the salons give me.
