This article from Wirecutter provides some really good evidence that buying AB from Amazon, Walmart, Shein, and Ebay (the sites used in the article) is a bad idea. While I've bought a few AB items from Amazon following what I thought was the right protocol to ensure authentic items, I'm now fully convinced that I shouldn't do this ever again. I know folks here are generally against buying AB from these sites, but I'd love to hear your thoughts. Have you had a good experience buying from Amazon, etc.? Have you gotten obvious fakes from these sites? What do you think of the tests done by Wirecutter?

  1. This link is to a Wirecutter article describing the author’s attempts to determine if the beauty products they bought from Amazon, Walmart, Shein, and Ebay are authentic. They consult with cosmetic chemists and have products tested and compared. They also discuss the issue of fakes in the beauty market, how fakes enter the market, how to determine if a listing is sketchy, and what to look for when you receive a product.

Interesting!! Well I’ve obviously gotten horrible results buying Asian spf from Amazon. This was years ago, before I knew you had to buy it from authentic Asian sites. It was the haru haru wonder spf, & I developed dark spots when wearing it. However, any kind of Asian skincare I’ve purchased from Amazon, seems to be ok? But I’ve always wondered if the ingredients differed, like they do with the SPF’s. Brands I’ve purchased from Amazon are d’alba, haruharu wonder skincare & Anua.

  3. Agree 100% it’s just not worth it. I won’t even buy western beauty from Walmart unless I buy in store.

I buy from only brands who have a store on Amazon and I’ve never gotten a fake
