1 coat Zoya Nail perfector ridge filler… Thought that would prevent mistakes from showing but no…
Method:
1 thin coat BKL Big Dweller
2nd thicker coat Bog Dweller, magnetize in the horseshoe for 60 seconds.
On one hand I did a water-based top coat (maniology) and magnetized it for 60 seconds. 3 min later I did the quick dry top coat (Essie G3L Couture) and let it magnetize for 60 seconds.
On the right hand, (shown) I did the same process except I immediately added the quick dry top coat right after I magnetized the water-based top coat. I magnetized the QDTC as well. Both hands look the same.
What is up with these brush strokes? I kept flooding my cuticles so I decanted some of the bogdweller into a smaller bottle with a smaller, rounder, flatter paddle brush. It helped with ease of application, but I still have these brush strokes.
Do I just need practice or is there a product that I need to use instead of water-based top coat and/or quick dry top coat. I looked it up and the Essie quick dry does not have toluene. I do have the DRK magic magnetic stuff I could try.
It seems like the point of failure is as soon as I put something on top of the color. I do float it on and I'm not pressing.
Should I do the two coats of color, one or more of the top coats, and then magnetize only once after everything is on my nails? I remember seeing someone here mention that, and that's maybe what I needed to do.
Suggestions are appreciated! ❤️

When I end up with brush strokes it’s usually because I pressed a bit too hard with the brush either when applying the polish or on the topcoat. Are you floating your coats in the floatiest possible way? (By which I mean: spreading the polish rather than gripping in with the brush and dragging?)
I am not an expert however it looks like it’s the way it’s interacting with one of the top coats rather than brush strokes. Or the top coats interacting together. Brush strokes to me look a little more like parallel lines whereas these look more like wrinkles or ridges if that makes sense? Have you tried without the water based top coat? My go-to for magnetics (that I discovered by accident lol) is the sally hansen red bottle. It holds the design pretty well and it’s super affordable!
ETA: I also usually magnetize all three (2 color coats and QDTC) but will sometimes just do the top two
Gotta float each coat and damn near let every layer dry before moving on to the next with these fine particle magnetics. Sometimes stuff like DRK’s magic magnetic top coat helps smooth it out at the end.
Someone posted this as a way to help with brush strokes – https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditLaqueristas/s/rPO1GLTSyr
I also saw something about using a matte top coat after your base but I don’t remember the details. Maybe you just proceed as normal after base coat + one coat of matte top coat?
