I am newer to the sub and the many beautiful finishes that polishes come in. I am LOVING this sub and everyone’s creativity and enthusiasm around such a wholesome hobby. So first, thank you.
Here’s my latest issue. I took off my MC Forbidden Fruit manicure and replaced it with a Cirque Eros Jelly manicure. This is after a long line of wild, incredible magnetic manicures. I thought I’d ’take a rest’ with a less complex polish. Problem is… it’s SO boring. I don’t find myself glancing down at my nails and seeing all the pretty colours change with the light, etc. I notice that many of you still wear beautiful cremes and jellies happily so maybe I, too, can get past this rut? How do you all get your dopamine hits when wearing what I regret to call ‘boring’ polishes? I hope this is just a newbie issue I will overcome!

It might be worth trying something like a skittle, or maybe a couple statement/contrast nails?
I just want to say I love your birb!
For me its a case of feelings changing with seasons/moods. I may LOVE a polish one week and then fall out of love for a little while untill i “rediscover” its beauty a couple months later 😅
I always upvote birds
what a lovely birb. what is she? reminds me of a sun conure my dad had called charlie. he was very cheeky and noisy but delightful.
I really don’t wear “boring” at this point! Everything gets a holo or flakey topper, or some sort of nail art.
I just don’t do “palette cleansers” or simple manicures, like I haven’t worn a simple creme mani since like 2020. I feel more like myself with fun nails so I let myself always have fun nails.
Ok the feather baby has taken over like I can’t even acknowledge this post bc feather baby
This was me until I started using Cracked’s dark creams and now I’m off my pretty shiny shifties (temporarily, I hope, since that’s my whole stash). Lahar is still my HG, I did a MC Imperial Stormtroopers the other day despite the glitter and I love it. But other than those two, it’s just dark creams for me these days (and my entire drawer is fully of glittery high contrast multicolor magnetics 😂)
I just have phases!
ETA: OH and toppers and accent nails! When I do a solid cream, if I do get bored with it, I add a magnetic or sparkle topper or test a layering idea and then usually can get another couple days out of it. It lets me try combos I wouldn’t commit to a whole mani of untested, and changes things up!
If you aren’t feeling it as is, maybe you could put a fun topper on it?
Honestly, I only force a palate cleanser or plainer mani if it’s required for something like a job interview or event. Otherwise I wait until my brain is craving something simpler, and even then I almost always add a topper or flakies/glitter or stickers later in the week to add some visual interest. Go with what you’re feeling, life is too short and there are too many pretty polishes to be stuck with something you don’t love.
Personally I really like a stark jelly mani every now and then when i shape my nails really perfectly, I feel like it really shows off the daggers. But I always go for a dark high contrast color with my skin tone for the drama
